I'm confused. If you agree then that part of the problem was coaching, then why did "CP as whole end up looking like idiots" for trying to get rid of the coach?

The its not the talent schtick. Don't you remember it? It was allll coaching...anyone who thought that alot of the players that needed upgrading were branded as idiots...because the CP brain trust knows all.

I guess. I've forgotten some of that, but I thought it was pretty obvious the talent sucked as well.

Only the players thought the talent was there not the fans. I remember Hicks saying that they don't need any more players that they have all the talent they need right now. That was after the 10 loss season.

Not at all.

http://web.archive.org/web/200312270...grobinson.com/

This is from a website with huge block letters saying "Its not the talent"

We ask our defensive linemen to 'fill gaps' against 300 lb'ers and then sprint out into COVERAGE. It's ridiculous.

Let's look at our line each as individuals.

Vonnie Holliday is best known as a RUN-STOPPER. No one has questioned his ability in this regard; his reputation has always been as such. His pass rush abilities have generally been decent, but not extraordinary. The only real question surrounding Vonnie has been his ability to stay healthy.

Yet, he is suddenly inept. I might point out that Duane Clemons (who had a good season prior to the inception of this scheme here in KC followed by two miserable ones in it) is playing very well in Cinci this season.

John Browning has always been a very good player; the only knock on HIM has been that he has trouble staying healthy. Yet he is suddenly inept as well; though last season he had what, 8 sacks and was a team MVP candidate?

Eric Hicks has been a rock for us for several seasons now. He had 14 sacks the last time he played in a different scheme. Yet now, he is horrible.

Ryan Sims is the only bright spot on this line, which you would expect him to be a good player as a #6 overall. But are these other guys REALLY this bad?

Shawn Barber hasn't been a difference maker. Yet he was in Philly. Scott Fujita is a big, strong, fast, super-smart young linebacker. Mitchell is supposed to be the same. Why can't these guys play? We know that our safeties are good. We know that Warfield is seriously improved and that McCleon is a player. Yet this defense is the WORST I have ever seen in over 20 years of watching football. Why?

This defense has enough talent to be a good defense. Not a GREAT one; but a good one. A solid squad. A perfect compliment to our offense. But we rush 3 when we should blitz; we drop linemen into coverage late in long drives and ask them to cover running backs. We allow receivers to run their routes unchecked BY DESIGN. We ask linemen to simply hold their ground in a gap against 300 pound offensive linemen who KNOW where they want to go. As a result of this read and react style, we play with NO aggression and get whipped at the point of attack physically because we elect not to even TRY to win at the point of attack.

I say that our front four are strong and powerful men. I say there is talent there. I say that all four have proved it in the past. I say that this scheme negates their strengths. I say that our linebackers have excellent size and speed. I say that our corners CAN cover, if you let them use all of the tools that are available to them (namely, be physical off the line). I say that our safeties are as good a tandem as you'll find in the league, but they are trying to plug the sinking ship in this scheme.

There is no excuse. We upgraded at least one player at each level in the defense this off-season. We have 5 new starters that are all unquestionably more talented than those from last year, and yet the results are the same. that's almost a 50% talent increase in the starting group. It's inexcusable to grant Robinson that talent increase and yet claim it's the players. Could you imagine giving Al Saunders a 50% talent increase on that offense?

No. It IS the scheme.

I guess we will just do nothing and complain about it and hope it changes. Great plan! No wonder he has been here as long as he has.

There is nothing wrong with complaining...I just think it is naive to believe that actually made a difference.

My personal plan (not for everyone) is to sit back and realize for better or for worse that I don't have control of this team or its actions and to enjoy the game of football and enjoy my team.

BTW, you are just quoting the headline of ONE ARTICLE!

We should stand on our high horse(oops, we don't have one, we'll just borrow yours) and judge your work by looking at just one photo, just one CP mod move, just one table buessed at the Country Club, etc...

I don't think it really did anything other than give an outlet for tons of frustrated Chief fans.
