DVD burning experts enter please
Ok, over the last 3 years I've burned numerous DVDs using DVD Fab Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and NEro.
I have a + and - R compatible drive, and have used -R media but I got +R discs this time. So far I've atemtped 6 burns and made 6 nice coasters. Tried different source files, even trying to burn just pictures. I don't think I've had 6 bad discs with -R media in 3 years. Any ideas what might be the problem? |

Only thing I can think of is to go into your settings with DVDFab and under DVD>>Write Check the box for "Set Booktype to DVD-ROM (Only for DVD+R/RW Media)"
This is something that can increase compatibility with older DVD players and +R discs. I don't know if it will work. What type of player are you trying to play them in? |

What type of burner and how old? Also, I thought my burner was broken not too long ago, but the ATA cable was just a little loose. Otherwise it could be a firmware problem.

1- Your transfer mode is set to "DMA if avail" and the "current transfer mode" is Ultra DMA mode 4 (your drive should handle 4) 2- Make sure you are using good blanks. Cheap blanks (especially +R) can give you many many coasters. Try Verbatim, however I absolutely recommend going to RIMA.COM and ordering TAIYO YUDEN blanks, these are the best you can buy (archival quality) and are true Japanese made. 3- Check for firmware update (good luck with I/O Magic) I tried to find them but could not see anything resembling updates. Reason for the firmware update is partly to update/include new write strategies for different manufacturers of blank disks, your drive might not have a strategy for the disk you are trying to write, so it reverts to a standard strategy. Your drive is not made by I/O Magic, these people are rebadgers and will buy from any manufacturer and put their name on them, if you can find out who made the drive and it shows in the device manager as such then you can probably use their firmware to flash it. 4- Only certain drives will support bit setting to DVD ROM and this would not make any difference in the write process, only in the compatibility of the disk with older players. 5- Try lowering the burn speed, it might help. Good luck and keep me posted. |
