How deep a sleeper is Mike Merritt?
Guy wasn't really training for the draft earlier this year - he was training to become a fireman.

As long as he can block, I think they took Cottam to be a overall 2, and took this guy to be a pure blocker, there will probably be alot of mix TE uses depending on sets and playcalls.

Ya never know. Herm's scouts obviously saw something there.

The Cottam and Merritt picks show how important Dunn was to this team. We need that blocking TE for our running game to work. It will be especially important if we are playing Albert at LT, we will need to give him help sometimes.
So I don't really care if he would have gone undrafted, if he can block we can use him. |

My sources say you have to spray water on him to get him out of bed.

I didn't post this to bash the pick. I'm all for becoming a strong physical team that can run it right at the defense. Of course by October people will be crying to throw the ball more and that Herm Edwards is stone age football, Dick Curl is Satan, yadda yadda yadda.

Herm in the past screwed up in this spot, he had Martin and Jordan and rode Martin and rarely used Jordan. |

In any case, that shouldn't be an issue here with Charles and Smith. |

We'll see if they want to turn him into late-in-his-career Dunn, or if they want to turn him into Brian Waters.
(FYI, Dunn was a regular TE when he started his career, second round pick for the Iggles, not just a blocker. Dude had wheels before his one of his knees got destroyed.) Wouldn't shock me to see him end up as a long-term project on the o-line. |
