KU Footballer Accused Of Attacking Couple At Concert
Bruce Ringwood Charged With Assault

POSTED: 4:51 pm CDT August 24, 2005
UPDATED: 8:29 pm CDT August 24, 2005

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A metro-area couple is bruised, battered and angry after allegedly being attacked by a University of Kansas football player over the weekend, KMBC's Peggy Breit reported Wednesday.

Terry and Kathy Hendren, of Shawnee, Kan., attended a Kenny Chesney concert Sunday night at Kemper Arena.

The couple said a fight started when KU player Bruce Ringwood was behind Kathy and allegedly hit her in the head.

"I turned around and went, 'Hey, that hurt, be careful.' And he got this just real belligerent look on his face, like, 'Lady, I don't have to listen to you or anybody,' and flipped me off," Kathy Hendren told KMBC.

She said her husband turned to the 20-year-old Ringwood and told him to apologize.

"Well, instead of apologizing, he dove over the seats and tackled my husband," Hendren said.

Terry Hendren was on the ground being pummeled, and Kathy said she tried to stop the beating. That's when she was hit in the eye.

Hendren said the assault on her husband didn't end, and she was trying to stop the attacker when he gave her a hard push.

"(He) stiff-arms me, and that's when I went just flying down the steps and landed sprawled in the middle of the steps in the aisle," Hendren said.

Kathy was badly bruised and sore. Her husband escaped from the attacker, and they headed for the exit.

Police arrested Ringwood. He was charged with two counts of assault and is due in court in October.

The KU Web site said Ringwood was red-shirted last year as a freshman linebacker. He is eligible to play this fall. Before the Jayhawks, Ringwood played in Blue Springs.

Hendren said whatever Ringwood's accomplishments on the football field, he needs to learn a lesson from this.

"I'm old enough to be his mother -- would he want somebody to do that to his mom?" Hendren said. "He needs to understand you can't do this to people."

KU officials said they were aware of the incident and are gathering information.

Apparently he is choosing to forego a professional football career for the opportunity to beat up middle-aged people in parks. What an imbecile.

How big is this moron? Is he a DB or a DL?

Never saw it in HS. Our program was pretty clear of that garbage...but that was a long time ago.

He was an all state LB in HS...went into the KU program as a LB. Somewhere along the line they made him into a FB.
