Chiefs nominees for the 2018 Hall of Fame

http://www.profootballhof.com/108-mo...class-of-2018/

Rich Gannon
Neil Smith
Albert Lewis
Nick Lowery
Bill Cowher
Tom Flores
Marty Schottenheimer
Dick Vermeil

Two mysteries that show the rigor of the committee are the naming of Steve Smith (not the Panthers one who isn't eligible, but the Giants one with 2,400 receiving yards) and Ferrell Edmunds (80 career starts, two pro bowls, never more than 33 receptions in a season, total of 12 career touchdowns). Steve Smith was obviously stupidity due to the voters not doing their research, but what's the deal with Ferrell Edmunds? I barely vaguely remember that he was an NFL player. Did he do something noteworthy that I don't recall?

Presumably there was an administrative oversight that left Otis Taylor, Deron Cherry, and Johnny Robinson off the lists, because they have to be on there.

Taylor and Robinson would go in via the senior committee if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure thats how Culp made it in.

Lewis deserves to be in. But no one will go to bat for him because he went to the raiders. Stupid.

They should obviously choose Marty, and hopefully given his health issues he's able to attend and feel the love appreciation of the city once again.

Lewis, Lowery, and Marty are the only ones I recognize as Chiefs.

If you want to help your chances of getting into the HOF you have to go the media route. Retire, then try to get a tv job so you can schmooze the writers and personalities.

Only one remotely deserving is Lowery. He stands a damn good chance. Retired as the #1 kicker in FG% and 10th in the NFL in points scored. Has a solid case.

The rest... nah... Cowher will go in a Steeler if he does. Marty, solid coach, but just didn't win the games that mattered.

None of these listed with Chiefs ties deserve HOF inclusion. If I had to pick one at gunpoint it would be Dick Vermeil, but only because he won a Super Bowl. Marty was a better coach but John Elway basically killed his career.

Until Otis Taylor gets in, Neilbonics and Albert Lewis can go F themselves.

My take is that Lewis, Lowery, and Smith are viable candidates in that order, and maybe Marty. I think Smith has the best chance of getting in, but Lewis is the most deserving. Albert Lewis is a cornerback who essentially put the Chiefs into the playoffs in 1986. When is the last time a cornerback carried a team to the playoffs? (Answer: never, other than Albert Lewis in 1986.)

But Cherry deserves it more than any of them.

The problem is, there are a lot of Chiefs from that team/era already in the HOF, and frankly I don't think a single Super Bowl title is going to convince the voters.

Dawson, Stenerud, Buchanan, Bell, Culp, Thomas, Lanier. Not sure if I'm missing anybody or not.

But of the guys remaining, I think Robinson and Taylor should go. Frankly Tyrer would have been in if it weren't for 1980. However having at least 7 guys on that team in the HOF may be as many as it gets. I guess 9 if you could Stram and Hunt.

Yeah, my suspicion is that they may have reached their limit. It's unfortunate that they couldn't pull off Super Bowl I or put away the Aquatic Mammals in 1971. Robinson does have an AFL championship to his credit in addition to the Super Bowl, but that only gets half credit.
