The train-truck debate has been brewing as long as interstates connected major centers of commerce. While railroads reigned supreme for over one-hundred years going back to Abraham Lincoln’s time, trucks are an increasingly visible form of transporting goods over land. (Trains still transport more freight however.)

Good point, especially dragging all that low energy Buffalo Dung out of Wyoming every day.

Literally nearly 2 miles of dung rolling into a decent sized plant every day. 200 cars a day at 53' a car.

I was at the Mississippi River near Hannibal a while back, and some signage there was touting barges as carrying way more than trucks and trains. I was quite surprised. I don't remember the numbers and if they were national or just some pro-barge subset. I'd like to see national tonnage numbers.

I know they move huge amounts of grain by way of Missouri river to the gas refineries to blend ethanol
