2014-2015 NHL Offseason/Regular Season Thread
Free Agency starts today. I'm probably the worst candidate to keep up an OP with player movement and the like, but figured it would be cool to have a repository for all things NHL leading up to next season.

Anaheim acquires Kesler from Canucks for Bonino, Sbisa, and picks.

-Dallas acquires Spezza from Montreal for Chiasson, others, and a 2nd round pick.
-Avs acquire Briere for Parenteau and a late pick.
-Predators acquire James Neal for Spaling and Hornqvist.
-Marian Gaborik re-signs with Kings.
-Ryan Miller to Canucks via UFA.
-Paul Stastny to the Blues via UFA.
-Jarome Iginla to the Avs via UFA.
-Dan Boyle to the NYR.
-Brad Richards to the Blackhawks.
-Vanek to the Minnesota Wild.
-Robidas to the Maple Leafs.
-Niskanen to the Caps via UFA.

Feel free to add other moves and I'll do my best to update.

Def wouldn't have guessed TB at the start of the season, but just like last year the Western Conference Finals is really the de facto Stanley Cup Finals again this year. Though, TB might put up a bit more of a fight than what we got last year outta the East vs the Kings.

Never say never, etc; but I just don't see how Chicago or Anaheim is going to put up with TB's shit.... TB has a lot of potential, but there's been zero consistency. I wouldn't be that surprised if the Lightning stole game 1, with how brutal the West has been in comparison, but that would also require some of that consistency. I did watch Andrej Sustr in college though, so that's kind of cool.

Sure, but I don't see them taking 4 out of a possible 7. That's even in spite of Crawford's spotty play and getting chipped a lot. It's no help with Chicago's back line stretched so thin.

It's been aggravating watching some of the sloppy passing, weak neutral zone play, slow backchecking. Way too many dump and chase possessions.

Oh, did I forget to mention I was speculating Chicago winning based on my hope they skate well tomorrow night and win.

It'll be sad to see the Blackhawks or Ducks go... would much rather watch another 7 games between those two teams. Either could sweep TB if the Lightning can't get their shit together for more than a game at a time... if they do though, it could be a decent series. Maybe.

On the other side of the spectrum from TB's youth, someone mentioned that it's amusing watching guys like Kane and Getzlaf answer the same old questions from the media about bouncing back from losses, not getting caught up in the moment, etc. Those two teams, especially the Blackhawks, are so far removed from giving a shit about a loss or whatever... watching such an experienced team like the Blackhawks just do what they do regardless of the score is pretty impressive.

JT's 2 scores in the final 2 minutes shocked me, but you're right- there's no panic in that team. Even though the Ducks have done well muscling Kane, when he does get those few chances in space to jitterbug around defenders and get his shot off on goal, they are breathtaking sequences. I don't think I'll see a better tandem of stars who are unique in their play but make such a great compliment to one another.
I selfishly wish they'd play the same line more, but I'm well past being too critical of Quinney's decisions.
