['Hamas' Jenkins]

We have two things to look forward to this year:

1) The potential beginning of the Maty Mauk Era. Mauk represents the best chance for this program to get back to a level of respectability after horrendous QB play cost us multiple games last year.

2) The last year of the Gary Pinkel era. Pinkel's entrenched cronyism won't play in a conference this competitive, especially if he couples his abysmal gameday coaching with lackadaisical, worst-in-conference recruiting. Pinkel was the formerly adequate meal that has now turned into a four pound bowel obstruction. It's time to jam a Fleet's enema up our collective asses.

Here is the schedule. We dodge Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas in the west and the Non-con is decidedly weaker than years past.

Looks like 6-6. Undefeated in non-con, 2-6 in league play.

I will eventually update the OP with a list of high profile in-state recruits that decide to go elsewhere after a half-assed attempt to gain their services. The inevitable cavalcade of *** rejects, skeezers, skanks, and scalliwags we get will fill out the ranks.

LDW was our best WR this year, btw. He's a body catcher, though. That doesn't fly in the NFL. DGB needs to work on his focus next year, and he can be a top 5 pick.

LDW was the best WR through the first half of the season. After that, DGB surpassed him and by year's end there was a pretty significant gap between the two.

Chase Abbington should definitely be used on defense, but I'm not sure that's what happens. Primary focus MUST be on improving the athleticism and speed at LB and S.

They need to find a lot more guys in the Braylon Webb mold, and stay away from skinny Ss like Matt White, who can't tackle.

I like the incoming back 7 group quite a bit.

What they lack in stars, they make up for in bodies they're throwing at the back 7.

I also look at Roderick Winters, a 5-11/196 LB according to his profile, and wonder what the plan is there. Seems unlikely he could get to 235 without losing some significant speed. Maybe the goal for him is S? Either than or his Rivals profile is wrong about his height/weight.

I think we all like Lee, but I also think we'll need more players who are even better athletes than he is.

Dennis looks like an adequate stopgap, and Cheadle and Taylor were both productive players in-state, but Missouri has turned out far more Carl Gettises than E.J. Gainses as far as CB talent in concerned.

It's just tough having a good defense without being able to recruit guys like Clinton-Dix and have them come here knowing they aren't going to touch the ball.

Regarding Britt: He gave up a ton of pressure to the outside (not just a standard re-route, either) and it was only due to Franklin's strength and agility that he didn't go down three or four more times.

If you can't bring in a lot of high-caliber guys, you can throw bodies at positions as well and see what sticks. I think they're doing a good enough job identifying guys with the athletic ability to find some quality players out of the bunch.

I see a lot more athleticism and depth in this db group than we've seen since the 2010 class.

Why would Mizzou only get a 13.5K allotment in a stadium that seats 100K?

Assuming OKST gets the same amount, that means they are expecting the general public to fill over 70K seats?

As I've said before, I have no ties to the University, but I always hope they do well. I know a lot of great people who bleed Black and Gold. Went to the bar with some friends who are alums for the SECCG and had a blast.

I have a few friends that are trying to drag me to Dallas, but I'm spending that cash on a trip to Indy or Cincinnati for the playoffs, and I'm going to the Masters in April.

Would be cool to see a bowl game, but not a priority.

Great breakdown of defensive alignments by Gabe DeArmond on PowerMizzou. Check it out if you're a subscriber:

Cliffs from 1st half:

4-man DL was LESS effective than 3-man defensive front, allowing 3 more YPC.

Best approach was "Bear" 6-man front (whether in a 3-man DL with 3 LB stacked or in a 4-man DL with 2 LB stacked).

Missed tackles were biggest problem, by far.

Seems like the struggles were based more on the players/individuals and less on the scheme, which is the opposite of my impression watching live.

I said this earlier in this thread, but there is no problem running a 3-man front against a running team, for a few reasons...
A) It screws up blocking angles
B) Fat guys HATE to block in space, they'd much rather lock on inline than try to track down an athlete in the open.
C) Against the read option, you'd really like to have more misdirection on defense, screwing up the QB reads (See Hamas' article describing the changes in defending the RO).

I work for a coach that refuses to let me run a 3-man as our base, because "to stopz the runz!!!" But I've seen plenty that you can stop it just as effectively (if not more) with a 3 man front.
