Electronics How do you know which data package to choose for your iPad 3?

I just bought my wife an iPad 3 for our anniversary and I'm trying to decide which data plan I wanna choose. Do you just start with the lowest and go from there? It's through Verizon so it's $20 for 1gb, $30 for 2gb, etc. How do you determine which one is best?

Does she really need a data package at all? I've had an iPad for a year and I use it every day. When I'm home it's connected to my home network, and when I'm at work it's connected to our corporate wireless network.

I would start low, tell her to use it in a normal fashion (without reservations about usage totals) and monitor usage monthly. Adjust accordingly.

Conversely, if you are concerned about surprise expenses, start high so you can budget the cost.

Unless she's streaming movies, its likely that the lowest package will be enough. But the thing to keep in mind is you can always change the package. The contract doesn't lock you in to a specific package.

Just be sure to monitor your usage personally. It seems like every time I've lowered a package, the Verizon employee has looked up my usage and tried to tell me my averages suggest I shouldn't, when based on my own monitoring, that's not the case.
