Yep, we were. 17 new players on the roster. Both our best pitchers unavailable until at least the all star break.

But we have found some good starting pitching, the bullpens been good. The new guys are hitting the ball solid. They are for real. Whether they win anything this year is still to be decided but the rebuilding is over.

King Carl take notice....

2006 - Win a World Championship

2007- Don't sign the older vets. Let high priced FA's go. Play the new guys and take your lumps.

2008 - Start contending again.

To be completely fair, you're a year off.

In 2007 we extended Edmonds, and Speizio, signed AK to a questionable contract and Wells to an awful one, played Juan E until his career was ended by an errant line drive, picked up guys like Mike Maroth to patch holes, etc...

2007 was a Carl Peterson season, a completely wasted abortion of a year.

2008 has some promise, but it's still a rebuild. It's still something of a house of cards as there are a bunch of quesionmarks and any hiccup could bring it tumbling down. However, this team will be reloaded and ready to win another championship in 2009. We're clearing about $42 million off the books and only losing Izzy and Looper as true contributors (sounds like Furcal money to me...).

Ludwick and Ankiel are DA BOMB. Its so refreshing to see young players compete and perform. I guess the experts were wrong about TLR not being able to manage young
players.

Lets see if the Cardinals pitching holds up.

That throw was unreal. Not often you can one up that first throw he made in the same game.

The rear angle view from the left-centerfield gap shows just how incredible that throw us. The freakin' thing had just started falling when it got to 3b. The play was incredible enough that the umpire didn't have the heart to make the right call...dude looked pretty safe to me.
Now that I got to see both plays today on highlights. The second throw was more impressive by far. In slow motion, you can see that the tag was applied right before the runner's hand hit the base. It looked like a good call to me there.

I watched their $100 million man Soriano stink it up in person. They have a top 5 payroll year after year and what do they have to show for it?

We don't have Royals level of a payroll but we arn't the Yankess/Cubs either. We have overpaid for FA's but we have got more bargains than busts and our farm system has produced some talent for the major league club.
