For example, in the Aikmans the Broncos are at 106.7, a figure that puts them on a record pace with a stunning margin of 12.4 over any other team. But nearly as impressive has been the play of the Chiefs defense – at least as measured by the Aikman Defense Ratings, where Kansas City stands first at 93.5. It’s a closer edge over the Seahawks (91.4) – and not confirmed by the NFL’s yards only method which has Kansas City ranked 7th. But it sets up the two undefeated AFC West teams as ranking 1-2 in the latest edition of the Aikman Combined. - - - If you measure teams strictly by their proficiency in yards gained on offense and allowed on defense, the best team by the NFL method is the 2-2 Texans who are 5th in the NFL on offense and 1st in defense for a combined rank of 6. The Aikman Ratings have them at 15th. Last week, they went up from 7th on offense and 2nd on defense in the NFL rankings – while losing to Seattle despite outgaining the Seahawks, 476 yards to 270.
