Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I'd say definitely bring it up to your trainer. Aches like that is usually your body compensating for another part of your body being injured, and you're just overusing the sore area. Hopefully he can compensate your workout accordingly.

Exactly. Plus, you are paying him $ to help you so asking him a question is not bugging him.

Eh, I have that dude on ignore. Must be an obvious troll. I definitely consider it a skilled position. I know my trainer went through classes and certification (NASM). He's also a certified sports nutritionist. Also, working with different types of people can be difficult, let alone doing so in a way that will keep them motivated.

Got some new shoes. Brooks brand. Ran about one tenth of a mile before I could no longer take the pain in my shins. It's really bumming me. I was actually enjoying running. I went from 242 to 230 this month. Hate to stop running.

Any way you could do some biking instead?

You may not like it as much but it's a hell of a lot easier on your joints and shins and all that. Maybe you could cycle off another 20 or 30 pounds and then try running again...

Just a suggestion.

I'm going to have to use the cycle. The mile walk I did today plus weights made me feel like it was a wasted workout day.

The big issue with the cycle is the seat hurts my taint and my arms get no work at all.

There are alternatives --

I put in 30+ minutes a day on this thing (man in photo is not me). I used to run hardcore but the pain/injuries I just couldn't tolerate anymore.

I've never really gotten the hang of the elliptical. It always feels weird using it.
