Everything I've read is that the Cardinals still consider Miller a core part of their future and not trade bait.

It is definitely risk vs reward, he makes 3 million more next year than we paid Beltran the last two years. He tops out at 20 mil when he is 35. He upgrades SS by over 300 OPS points alone. You have to consider it if they want Miller and a lesser prospect. He has had some fluke injuries, but still produces a lot of runs. He would have led our team in home runs this year in his 122 games.

This seems like the logical reason just looking at it on the surface with no inside knowledge. But if that is the case, then why waste a roster spot with him in addition to the one taken up by Mujica. They clearly have little to absolutely no intention of using them in anything other than a possible mop-up role. If that's they case why not give the spot to someone like Freeman who could still fill that role in need be, but could also provide some value as another lefty out of the pen. Some of these decisions like this and the in-game ones as well are just ridiculously mind-blowing to me. I don't get it.....at all

If I'm Matheny I try to find the right time and ask for the umps to take a look at Lester's glove and hat. They tried playing mind games with Lynn yesterday, so give the shit back to them. I'm not super-familiar with Lester outside of what we saw in game 1, but a lot of stuff I read up on sounds like he tends to get rattled pretty easily. The umps have catered to every other request in this series, so I think its worth a shot.
