Time to geek out.
What are you looking forward too?

I'm looking forward to more on the PlayStation 4, a competent Vita lineup, and some NHL 14 news.

I played on a team once where all of us stayed online for a good 6 hours. Was a blast.

What was left out from BF2?
BF2 was more team oreinted. Squads were more integral. VOIP was included in the game (at least on PC). BF3 requires 3rd party software to do voice comm (at least on PC). BF2 had commanders that would be in direct contact with squad leaders. The commanders could do things like see the entire battlefield, order UAV (temporary airborne radar that revealed enemy locations), send supply drops that would give supplies or repair vehicles, and send artillery strikes that worked great for softening up a flag that a squad was getting to try to take.

BF3 seemed more like a console style free for all.

hmm.
interesting.

Yeah; I would get so irritated when playing Conquest and guys would run around like it was TDM or FFA . You'd see a guy destroy the other teams dudes at the flag, then just run away lol. wouldn't even bother capturing the flag. Plus, I was NEVER able to talk to anyone for whatever reason. I would hear all the morons, but couldn't talk. not sure why - probalby doing something wrong on my end.

This is right on. I had a PS and then the PS2. When next gen was about 6 months to a year in I decided to go with the 360. I chose it because XBL was better and most of my friends were on XBL. But I'm no fanboy by any means. I will do just what you described. That being said, at this time I'm leaning heavily toward PS4.

Let's say you unhook the internet from the console, or disable the wireless. You'd be able to play any game offline for (right now at least) 24 hours before it basically locks you out and you can't play it any longer. Once you went back online for 5 seconds, you'd have another 24 hours of offline play before it was disabled again.

Like I said, I would likely never even notice it was going on in the background because when I play, my system is always connected online. I would assume that most gamers are the same way whether they are playing MP or SP. But, my issue with it is why - if I am playing off of a disc - should anyone be able to control what I do offline?

I think if MS had just said "Hey, we are doing away with discs, everything will be downloaded & saved on your HD/Cloud" a lot of their problems wouldn't be problems.
And if your internet connection is down you're SOL. And I don't allow my 11 year old to play online. So how would they handle this? I don't like it at all.

It looks like BF4 might be my last (or one of them) purchases before I go to PS4.
If I can hold out, I might just continue to enjoy BF3 for a while lounge. Hopefully there are quite a few people who move on to BF4.

I'm guessing they'd argue you should get a 360.

Possibly. They've definitely handled this round of console wars like PS3 did vs. 360 initially. I guess the question is, will MS learn anything from that?

My hope is yes, my belief is no.

I'm sure there will be parental controls to keep your kid from playing online mp. They just want to make sure no one is playing pirated digital copies

More likely it's related to confirming multiple people aren't playing on the same game license at the same time.
