I have to admit I checked on this first thing this morning. I just really hate being ranked 32. 32 leaves open the possibility that if there were 50 teams, we would be ranked #50, or if there were 100 teams that we would be ranked #100.

Not really. Not sure there is any real way to have optimism about current state while being ranked dead last. Dead last means you might not have a team that is even fit to compete at this level. As long as you aren't dead last, you can know that isn't the case.
