Huge, Huge News

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

I'm about 150 pages into Clash. The Prologue was fantatsic. I feel like it's been a little slow going since. I'm still completely hooked and into the story, but it feels like it's treading water a bit.

I'm excited to see what happens with Jon beyond the Wall. Also really digging this Melisandre chick. I hope Martin makes the most of her potential. Tyrion continues to impress. Arya is developing nicely.

Hoping this thing picks up some steam in the next 150 pages, though.

I figured as much. I remember the first bit of Thrones being a little slow and meticulous as well, and then it just exploded open. I'm still really enjoying the book.

I'm around 550 now. Keep going, it picks up quickly.

I love the telling through multiple viewpoints, but you do get bored with some of them. I still read any Daenerys chapter only to get through it, and Sansa is a royal **** so far. Other characters I get annoyed with, but that's part of the story, right? He writes quite a bit of characters with heavy sarcasm which makes them hard to love right away, but that's good writing. Not everyone can be good or evil.

I'm about a third of the way through Storm of Swords.

Although I think it's probably better to think of this as just one big 3,000+ page book in four parts. The end of each book (so far) is no different than the end of any particular chapter.

I'm so interested to see an actor tackle Varys. What a fantstic role for an actor - and a fascinating character.

Is Conleth Hill cast? Is that official? The credit isn't listed on his official website. He's a brilliant actor who could really rock that part.
