I wonder if they couldn't swap Houston and Hali when Tamba starts to wear down? Traditionally, it seems like in most 3-4 defenses the LOLB can cover better but not always. Some of them just have two pass rushers who aren't good at all in coverage.

Houston doesn't seem to do much in coverage. They seem to have similar coverage skills. Would it be smart to eventually have Hali on the left side all the time going against the RT instead of the left?

Is Houston good enough to play on the right side and go against the LT?

It's certainly debatable but I think Houston is better than Hali right now. He's better against the run and pass. Even if Hali edges him out in pass rush, I'll take the more complete defender every time.

Yeah, Houston had a better season than Hali last year. I think Houston is still ascending, while Hali had an off year last year and may be in decline.

I'd want the better, more disciplined run defender on the strong side. From what little I have seen thus far, I think it best to primarily leave Hali and Houston where they are.

Hali seems to be the better run defender imo.

That's b/c your an idiot. Hali sells out on the pass rush and gets caught out of position for backside contain. Saw it happen once or twice for huge runs just this preseason.

That and Houston sheds blocks with incredible ease.

i know i'm late on the point but to all you guys on this magical Brandon Lloyd bandwagon...

correct me if I'm wrong, maybe the 500 new influx of 49er fans can answer this, but I am pretty sure Brandon Lloyd and Alex Smith don't like each other from their days in SF

I thought about that

but then again i wonder if Lloyd has problems 'liking' anyone and that's why he can't keep a job.
