We're saving that one spot for Brees.

This offseason, we have started Travis Daniels at safety with a UDFA, Terrance Parks. When Elam was signed in the morning, he was starting at safety in the afternoon.
Our safety reserve situation has not improved, folks. McGraw has started something like 20-25 starts in the NFL. He knows the system, and is a great teammate. |

10 games
47 tackles 1.0 sack 1 FF 3 INT 6 passes defensed I'm not saying he's a great player. But that's your #3 or #4 safety right there. |

Jon McGraw = Jeff Francoeur.
He must be blowing Hunt. |

CB: Flowers, Routt, Arenas, Daniels, Brown
S: Berry, Lewis, McGraw, Elam, Menzie Once again, that's a good depth chart. You are now four-deep at safety in terms of players with considerable NFL starting experience. Corner now becomes the secondary's concern. Not safety. |

I acn only speculate, but I think that Pioli wants to get younger, faster, and more athletic at safety, and Travis Daniels has the potential to be a better, and more versatile backup in the secondary than Jon McGraw, which gives the Chiefs more versatility in how they build tht group.

You always roll into gameday with ten secondary players, however. So we need bodies there, and McGraw is probably better than players #6 through 10 in the secondary rotation as of this season. I like Daniels, and was happy we resigned him for another season -- but playing him at safety really thins us out at corner. |

Where is McGraw?
He's still out there on the market? Teams aren't exactly lining up to sign him. He's a solid guy, but extremely limited.

We're not exactly in a position to be choosy. Our top three players at the position are injured, and Menzie's a rookie. |

I also think with the drafting of Menzies, he sees the writing on the wall as it relates to his future in KC.

you have to remember it's a new special teams coach/system. So saying McGraw would help on special teams is moot. The new special teams coach has clearly been molding his own path, so any and all younger guys it's a chance for them to make the team. McGraw would be on the same level of competition in the special teams system. So it's not like he would have a leg up on anyone like if the Haley squad was still here.
