Never really an EK fan on the field, but I appreciated a lot of his personal approach to life and his priorities. |

i know, it seems like people are putting Sammie's drops on him or something. EK was pretty reliable, and good for the occasional big play.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Kennison As a member of the Chiefs, from 2002 to 2006 Kennison was one of the most productive receivers in the NFL. Kennison averaged 59 receptions, 961 yards, and 5 touchdown catches during this span. This production has put Kennison in the Chiefs' top 10 in every major receiving category. |

Kennison was always underappreciated Here's wishing Eddie Kennison signed with the Chiefs to play for them in 2010 instead of merely to retire as a member of the organization, as he did today. Maybe this time around, Kennison would have received the credit he was due the first time, but never seemed to get. Kennison's contributions were usually hidden beneath those of other players on those marvelously talented offensive teams from the early and middle part of the last decade. I'm not going to claim his part was as important as that of Priest Holmes, Tony Gonzalez or an extremely skilled offensive line. But I will go as far as to say we wouldn't be talking about the Chiefs as one of the great offensive teams of the 2000s if they didn't have Kennison. It's no coincidence that the offense didn't become the potent machine we came to know it as until Kennison joined late in the 2001 season. Immediately, the Chiefs became a dangerous team. He gave them the field-stretching speed the Chiefs needed to allow them to take advantage of their many other talents. So good for the Chiefs they're letting Kennison take his bow now. A few years too late but still richly deserved. Submitted by Adam Teicher on July 19, 2010 - 2:25pm. login or register to post comments Sadly Submitted by Otis26 on July 19, 2010 - 2:56pm. "But I will go as far as to say we wouldn't be talking about the Chiefs as one of the great offensive teams of the 2000s if they didn't have Kennison." When you say 'we' I guess you mean Chiefs fans because no one else is talking about that offense. Why? Because there was no defense. Almost no other fan in the country is going to remember the potency of the Chiefs offense of the early 2000s because they did absolutely nothing with it. login or register to post comments Speak for yourself... Submitted by sko on July 19, 2010 - 5:31pm. @Otis26- While I agree with your comments about the Chiefs defense, you shouldn't try to speak for all fans when it comes to specific players. As a 16 year season ticket holder, I will always appreciate what Kennison did for the Chiefs - regardless of the defense (or lack thereof). It wasn't his fault or his responsibility. I will NEVER forget - nor will my 10 year old son - the day that Kennison came up to us during pre-game warm-ups and asked my son if he was getting good grades in school. After hearing a "yes", he proceeded to take my son down on the field - with another youngster as well - and made one of his dreams come true! There's not one other Chiefs player who takes time to do that - before OR after Kennison's time with the team. You need to take a minute and remember that the biggest impact these players have on their team AND their fans, many times, comes OFF the field. The LAST thing I thought about when reading this story was the defense - until I read your negative comment. Again - it's not inaccurate. The defense could - and should - have been better. However, Kennison had nothing to do with that. Period. My son still messes around with the game ball Kennison gave him that day. He just ran around the house with it last night, as a matter of fact. He remembers Kennison asking him specifically about his grades and the talk they had about how important it is to do well in school. Yet, you want to b!tch and moan about the defense. Shut up and let it go already. After all, it's only like 7 or 8 years ago. login or register to post comments Last edited by CHENZ A!; 07-19-2010 at 06:39 PM.. |
