New Tag section with moderators?

What if we had a kindler, gentler tag board? I am sure there would be a couple people who could be tag moderators.

Plus, if we know that no personal attacks are allowed, the board would probably police itself.

I'm sorry, they were hilarious. Some people were stupid and rude... but I bet most of that would go away.

Correct. The only thing a moderator could do would be to go around deleting tags - no one could ever be "punished" for getting out of hand.

Hey - I could go for that! Tell ya what - you guys raise enough money to keep me employed full-time and I'll turn the tags back on and moderate every single one. Rain Man would be disappointed, but I'm sure he'd understand.

To give you an idea of the scope of trying to moderate the things, there have been over 2,100 unique tags added in the past two weeks. That doesn't count tags that have been used multiple times, such as Ari's favorite "fuck carl peterson".

How could you moderate them? The only reason they were funny and worth keeping is for the personal insults. If you take those away, they arent funny anymore so there would be no point in bringing them back anyway.

What are these tags you speaks of? Is this the tag you add to the thread when you create it? I hardly ever make threads so I guess it don't matter.

No argument there. The difference is that, when something like that is posted in a thread, we can all point and laugh and say "Look how much of a douche he is for posting something like that." If it's TOO far over the line, people can report it to a moderator and, if necessary, corrective action can be taken. You can't do that with tags.

The other issue is that typically the offensive/stupid stuff around here is confined to offensive/stupid threads. If a user doesn't want to read a thread about whether or not a person likes to pee sitting down, they don't have to read the thread, and that's all there is to it. When tags were on, people were putting stupid crap in nearly every thread. For example, the Lakers thread is currently tagged with "kobe raped her" and "rapers suck cock." A legit thread about Chiefs discussion by a user with 500 posts was tagged with "nobody cares n00b." A thread about a guy's cousin getting signed by the Bucs was tagged with "stupid n00b" and "who gives a shit."

If that's the kind of community you guys really want to support around here, then I guess that's your opinion. I can even understand why some people find that kind of thing funny, so no argument there. But when you can't find a thread without reading that kind of thing, it gets old very quickly.
