My Dog has Cancer


This is the dog who broke his femur bone at a pet hotel. His biopsy came back as positive for osteosarcoma which is bone cancer. He now has to go back to have his leg amputated. Not only is he going to lose his leg the doctor is only giving him 3 to 9 months to live. This is a very aggressive form of bone cancer.
The pet hotel is still going to pay for the first surgery he had to repair his leg but now it's coming off.

I am so sorry to hear this. We lost our German Shepard a few months ago to cancer. It was tough; he was a great dog. But today my wife is heading out to get a new puppy (German Shepard/Malamute mix).

I know he's one of the family but you may need to consider his quality of life for the rest of the time he has left and weigh that against alternatives for him and not for you.

Dogs are the best. I cry like a baby when I have to say goodbye to one of my critters.

All they do is give you their all every time they see you. It sucks to see them go through stuff like this.

We have,

Right now he is not in pain and it's early. They offered chemo but that would only extend his life and that just seems inhumane to me.

So we are going to take the leg off and watch him very carefully. When the time comes we will take him in and put him to sleep.

My dog had incredible weight loss, like in the matter of a week you could see her ribs defined. We went to the vet and they couldn't do imaging because of being too skinny. We had to buy this special food which she gained weight super quick and were supposed to take her back in but she passed overnight. Vet said that it was very likely cancer but we'll never know. It's just crazy from a healthy dog to dead in the matter of two weeks.

Man, very sorry. We went through the cancer thing with our dog and had to put her down 6 months ago. It's awful but the last best thing you can do for your best buddy. Prayers.

Lots of tears right now in my household. He is not a pet to us, he is family. He has been a part of our family for 10 years now. It's going to be hard knowing that he won't be around.

I still have another golden retriever beagle mix that is healthy. We are glad that we have her still but she will also miss her buddy.
