Trade down in the 2nd for Surtain?

Just a thought, but if Miami is Hellbent on a 2nd rounder. Why not wait for the draft and trade down in the 2nd round, pickup a pick and give them a lower 2nd rounder?

Sure. That would work.

Another reason it's not a bad idea to just wait this thing out as long as no other teams are in on the bidding.

How about next years second? It should be lower. Also I would sure like us to somehow package some picks or maybe picks and a safety to move up this year and get Derrick Johnson. I think he is going to be one hell of a disruptive force.

Great Idea, but it would just be a second day pick, and Miami has to have the hots for whoever is on the board

I think we have discussions prior to the draft and see what Miami would be willing to accept in the 2nd round. The fins don't even have a 2nd rounder, so I'm sure they would be happy just to have one.

I'd rather trade next year's pick as well, but Miami doesn't have alot of picks this year. They will certainly want at least one pick this year.

only problems is that you usually can't trade down until draft time and another team sees somebody they want.

you gonna be on the clock with miami for a trade for surtain and on another team to trade down.

cutting it kinda close on the time there

not to mention whether Miami gets pissed and says they don't want a lower 2nd rounder when the trade happens right then.

Not next years, if Miami wants to do that they keep him and franchise him or wait until he is a RFA - they would get a 3rd rounder no less...

I wouldnt mind trading our 2nd on draft day, but hopefully there are 0 teams interested at that point. Trade our 1st for a low 1st and a 2nd, Trade our 2nd, get a 2nd and 3rd, trade our 3rd and 5th to Miami for Surtain and still have a pick in the 1st round, 2 2nd rounder's, Conditional 3rd on Day 1.

Day 2, give up our 4th for Sharper, get Carlos Hall with a 7th, then we have 2 5th, 2 6th and 1 7th rounders to do whatever with... get another

Hope this makes sense, I would cream my pants if we end up with 4 1st day picks after flirting with only having 1.

CB, CB, DE, WR in day 1... With Surtain in Red and Gold to boot...

And then I woke up...

If you trade down, You'll be on the clock later in the 2nd round and you can conduct your business then. Like I said, you talk with Miami PRIOR to the draft and ask them what they would be willing to accept in the 2nd round. They don't have a 2nd rounder, I'm sure they understand, that we have to make moves as well, to improve our team.

Exactly. I'm advocating trading the 2nd rounder for Surtain. I just think we can trade down a little and still land Surtain.

I appreciate the compliment, but I think anybody who has been a GM for as long as Carl has, shouldn't have an excuse to not be able to pull this off. It's just a trade down and then trade the traded down 2nd rounder for Surtain.
