My dad has a friendly cat like that. She'll sit there staring at you until you look at her. Once she's made eye contact, she thinks that means that she's supposed to jump in your lap.

That's a very good idea, Ms. luv. I'm not sure if I make inadvertent eye contact with the cat or not, to be honest. In future, however, I'll be sure to avoid acknowledging the cat in any way and see if that makes a difference.
