Personally, I've always thought Chiefsplanet's word filters were pretty generous. Probably because I expect words like ***** and c*nt to be censored, but I also expect shit to be. And guess what? Shit is not censored.

There are several places I go to where both shit and asshole are censored.

Though I'm a big fan of a feature on my site - use profanity all you wish. Those who want to see it simply turn the filter off. Those who are offended or need SFW content leave the filter on. Surely vBB has something similar.
