Sights, Sounds and Thoughts from Monday Night Football

What a kick-ass night.

This is what everyone was waiting for, and the organization didn't disappoint. And to win with less than 200 yards of offense was just icing on the cake.

Joe and Kathy outdid themselves again, thanks SO much for having us. And it was great to hang with old friends and meet new ones. I honestly haven't laughed that much in a long time. Hope you out-of-towners had a great time.

For those of you that say, "this is just a message board," you've never been to a CP function. I've made some life-long friends because of this football team and this website. And to see the looks on the faces of the guys that had never visited Arrowhead before was something I'll never forget. Arrowhead was everything we have told them it would be.

Regarding the game, I'm not going to say anything negative, other than what anyone with half a brain already knows:

This team will not win many more games depending on a defense to be on the field for 40 minutes or for the special teams to score weekly.

Less than 200 yards of offense is unacceptable.

To the positives:

The blocking for Arenas and McCluster was outstanding. Hell, all McCluster had to do is put a slight move on Mike Tolbert - a FB - and no one else was anywhere close. Arenas did a hell of a job after contact. Shame that Studebaker spaced out on one of JA's returns, or he would have gone to the house as well.

Offensive line was good enough to win most weeks. Liked the nastiness they played with.

Best overall DL performance we've seen in quite some time. Even Tyson Jackson looked decent before leaving due to injury.

Game Ball: Derrick Johnson/Glenn Dorsey

Both had their best all-around games as Chiefs, IMHO.

And the 71K that were there did their part, even the pansy bastards who stood in the concourses because they were too stupid to buy/bring a poncho. Lesson One, peeps. Don't trust the local weatherman. Bring it just in case.

Anyway, without further delay, here are some of my favorite sights and sounds from the weekend:

I knew the weekend was going to be epic when I saw this guy while picking Tiny up at the airport. Sorry it's so blurry, but I didn't want to creep the guy out by asking him to pose.

Some of my favorites from inside Arrowhead:

A few from the tailgate:

And last, but certainly not least - Home of the Chiefs:

Celebration:

That chant just kept building all the way down the concourse exit.

I had every intention of recording the entire walk down the spiral, but my arm was getting tired, and I was getting bumped around quite a bit. Didn't want to drop my phone.

Who needed a poncho?

The guy who didn't want his brand new iPhone and digital camera waterlogged.

That's who.

That was quite a night. I think a lot of people who just showed up for "Monday Night Football", left with and experience they won't soon forget. I hope that is reason enough for them to come back. I also hope that the locals watching on t.v. got a good enough dose to want to check out the new Arrowhead, not only for the atmosphere, but to see if this team might be for real.

Those rafters were ringing. At the worst point(rain wise) at the end of the first half, the seats seemed to only be 1/4 full, but the 12th man still showed up. Once the rain quit after halftime, it still only seemed to ever get back up to 60% full as many people were more than happy to stick it out on the horizon level. I had no poncho, only one t-shirt and a pair of rain soaked shorts, I was shivering and miserable, but I only missed the blown coverage play to Nenee to talk to my gf quick up in the horizon level. Was VERY happy to see some faithful stick it out. I gave myself the absolute worst headache/pain of my life from screaming so much. Just when my pain subsided, it was time to scream and endure the brain shock again. That didn't slow me down one bit. No way.

As a part of the crowd walking out the spiral ramps doing the chop, I REALLY wish I knew how that sounded from the parking lot. At times, it seemed as if the sound of Chiefs fans in unison would travel to the heart of San Diego and back. Way to go Chiefs fans. We earned this one.

Before last nights game, my girlfriends 13yr. old girl couldn't have cared less about football and the Chiefs. Though once the rain quit, she came back out to sit with me, and joined the 12th man. I explained to her why she needed to "get loud", so she did. She was screaming, and banging on seats like it was nobodies business, couldn't have been more proud of her. I explained to her what "the 12th man" was all about, how we helped, and how she should be proud to have helped the Chiefs win a big one. Then, on the way out on the ramps, with the chant and all the high fives. She, the one who wouldn't even high five me to begin the night, wouldn't scream, wouldn't get excited for anything looked at me and said, "THIS is AMAZING"! Last night, I got to show her what it was like to be a part of something, and no matter how small your part, what it felt like. I think we got a bit closer last night, and I think she's ready to bleed red and gold.

Last night was my first home opener and it definitely didn't dissapoint. Sad to see so many pussies hiding from the rain during such a huge game, but I didn't mind the free seats closer to the field. I think I might have shredded my vocal cords during the final goal line stand, but last nights game was definitely worth feeling like complete shit today.
