Toys R Us Manager Paid Call Girl $31,000 a Week

And she wasn't even hot.......

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/we...129788408.html

Quote:
A British Toys R Us manager paid a prostitute $31,000 a week in stolen funds, and now the international chain wants the money back, it emerged in court.

Disgraced manager Paul Hopes spent a total of $6 million on services from call girl Dawn Dunbar, prompting a stunned judge to ask how she arived at her fee.

"It is [$31,000] a week," marveled Judge Stephen John. "How do you manage to evaluate your services — sex — at [$31,000] a week? "How do you justify that?"

Dunbar, according to the Telegraph, replied: "It wasn't me that was putting the worth on that. It was Mr. Hopes paying what he thought it was worth."

Hopes, 59, is a former purchasing manager for the company father of two. His wife has divorced him since the scandal, and he is serving seven years in prison for theft and money laundering. The hearing involved the order that he pay back millions of dollars spent on houses and cars for prostitutes.

The issue is whether Dunbar and other prostitutes earned their money or it was given to them, and whether they should have to forfeit it to the toy chain. A hearing with another prostitute, Tanya Wieck, was expected in coming weeks.

Quote:
A JUDGE baffled to hear a prostitute charged her crook client £20,000 a WEEK for sex asked her: "How do you justify that?"
Incredulous Judge Stephen John asked vice girl Dawn Dunbar to explain the cost of services provided to shamed Toys R Us director Paul Hopes.

He quizzed Ms Dunbar as part of a trial trying to reclaim £3.7million 59-year-old Hopes stole from his employers.

She reportedly received £1.75million of this after Hopes developed a vice habit. And while Ms Dunbar admitted it was ten times the usual rate, she insisted Hopes thought she was worth it.

Judge John told Ms Dunbar: "How do you manage to evaluate your services — sex — at £20,000 a week?

"How do you justify that?"

Miss Dunbar replied: "It wasn't me that was putting the worth on that. It was Mr Hopes paying what he thought it was worth."

Prosecutors argued that most of the money was a gift and not earned by Ms Dunbar — meaning it could be confiscated.

Receivers will reclaim a £25,000 Lexus GS300, a £30,000 Toyota Landcruiser and a £42,000 Lexus RS400h 4x4.

A £60,000 plot of land in her husband's native Nigeria and nearly £400,000 in bank accounts frozen by the High Court can also be seized.

Hopes also bought Ms Dunbar a £132,000 Bentley Continental after she reportedly told him: "Every girl wants a Bentley." The car has already been confiscated.

Amazingly, while supporting Ms Dunbar and four other prostitutes — processing stolen money through an account in the name of Dunbar Associates — Hopes was not spending any of the money on himself or his wife Gillian.

Divorce

She has since divorced him and been awarded the family home, in Woodley, Berks.

Ms Dunbar said that at the time she met Hopes she was separated from her husband and was living in Feltham, West London, with their two children.

After a job at a bookies', earning barely £10,000 a year, she turned to offering "escort service" through a massage parlour. She met Hopes there on her first day in January 2005.

Their arrangement began with an agreed weekly fee of £500 for her services, before he requested that she leave the business and see him exclusively, for a weekly fee of £1,000.

That continued with him also giving her additional payments and making extravagant gestures.

Ms Dunbar told Reading Crown Court: "Everything I received was a payment for my escort services and for him to see me exclusively."

She added: "He said I was his mistress, which I was, but in a specific meaning; He would call me his mistress if he wanted me to beat him and whip him and treat him quite badly."

Hopes was only caught when a neighbour grew suspicious of Ms Dunbar's extravagant lifestyle and reported her to the police.

She insisted that while she knew Hopes worked in finance for Toys R Us, she believed his story that he was very rich and that the money was from stocks and shares.

She said: "I have been very honest.

"From the beginning I have been asked where the money came from and I told the truth. I was up front with the police."

Judge John replied: "The fact that you have been up front with the police does not mean you get to keep the money."

Martin Evans, prosecuting, said: "On her own best estimate, she was entitled to perhaps £200,000 during this period.

"She in fact received in excess of £1,750,000. She received ten times more than the valuation she put on the service that was provided.

"Ms Dunbar has, putting it bluntly, already spent and no doubt enjoyed vastly more than the value of the consideration provided."

Hopes, of Woodley, Berks, worked for Toys R Us in Maidenhead for 23 years and was a purchase ledger manager.

He admitted 14 counts of theft and four counts of money laundering, involving £3,683,592.67.

At a hearing in December 2009 he was jailed for seven years and ordered to repay the money.

A decision to add a further ten years to his sentence in the event the money is not repaid has been stayed until the end of the confiscation proceedings.

Another enforcement hearing concerning a further £600,000 given by Hopes to another prostitute is due to take place in the coming weeks

That is Toys R Us' for not realizing they were missing that much money and that nosey ass neighbors fault for sticking their nose where it didn't belong. She really shouldn't have to pay anything back.

This x 1000.

1. How the hell would they go about going after her, surely she spent that money.

2. Why did she admit to it in the first place? maybe the manager narced her out and they have on camera accepting 31k once, twice even three times. no way do they have 6 Mil worth of footage though.

3. If in indeed, the store gets this money back (they shouldnt and I would be shocked if they did) that's opening up the floodgates for Big Corp to go after the littel guy for ANYTHING. which, seems to be the new American Way, it seems lately.

I hope they dont get a dime. Take some responsibility for running your business more securely.
