Books that ****ed you up
there is really only one book that left me disturbed for quite some time after reading it, and it is Aztec by Gary Jennings.
Has anyone here read it as well? Did you feel the same way, and are there other books that leave you with a similar feeling? Quote:

i think it was The Informers that i tried and put down. Rules of attraction kept going into a lot of gay situations iirc and i didn't feel like sitting there visualizing it. and i do look forward to reading American Psycho, i can get into that type of subject matter much better.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy. While the overall story is about the strength of a father and son's relationship, the world they live in is dark, dismal, and depressing. It was very hard to read at times. Both creepy and heartbreaking.

One of my all time favorites. And that one absolutely did a number on me. I had to stop reading it for a little while to get my head straight.
The only other book I've ever HAD to put down was American Psycho. That book is so ****ed up. Other books that messed me up: Blindess by Jose Saramago, The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Senseless by Stona Fitch. |

What makes it worse is that he'll juxtapose an unbelievably violent, misogynistic, torturous scene with one of the funniest things you'll ever read. It's laugh out loud humor somehow makes the violence worse. It's a messed up book. I'm glad I read it, but I won't ever read it again. The film gets the point across and is more successful. The book is overkill (no pun intended). Last edited by Red Brooklyn; 12-12-2012 at 01:42 PM.. |
