Walmart

There's been an issue local to Springfield regarding the rezoning of property to build yet another Walmart Market. The very basic description would be that City Council approved the rezoning of a property that a church sold to Walmart. Petitions were circulated and ended up getting more than enough signatures to either have City Council change it's mind or to bring it to a public vote. City Council decided to bring it to a vote. The church and the neighboring landowner who also sold to Walmart filed an injunction to prevent the public vote. A judge ruled this morning that the issue would not go to a vote and the rezoning would go on as originally passed by City Council. Needless to say, people are a bit outraged.

I've just never heard many good things about how Walmart employees are treated. Yes, this creates jobs, but I think it's going to end up being a waste AFTER it causes two more locally owned grocery stores in that area to close.
What grocery stores is it going to cause to close? Hy-Vee? Hy-Vee isn't exactly local. Everything they do comes from corporate in IA.

Well, on the plus side, the Neighborhood Markets I've seen are usually fairly small by WM standards. Easier to blend in.

Also the downtown market. It's nothing grand, but it's local. Corner of Campbell and State street.

I like Walmart, they put in a Supercenter in my town 5 years ago and it allows me to buy lots of crap I can't find locally. That being said, it's a shame our government has allowed these businesses to monopolize and destroy the american dreams of so many. In my business the same thing has happened. The big boys have access to so much cash and financing the we family farms cannot even survive.

Smithfield foods is the largest hog producer and meat packer in the US and guess what. It was just sold to the Chinese ! The same country thast supplies all our Walmart shit.

We have a National security issue on our hands and most people don't even realize it.

Won't do any good as far as making an impression. The US is now full of Mexicans and Muslims that feed there.

They're crummier than most grocery stores. I think the majority of people would favor a Hy Vee, Price Chopper etc if the distances were similar.

Ive been in a few of those Neighborhood Markets. Here in the KC area and one down in Daytona Beach. Price wise theyre good. Quality on produce sucks. Lots of rotten produce, at least rotten enough it wouldnt be on display at Hy Vee or Whole Foods. The stores have a dirty look to them and poor lighting.

Go to one of those neighborhood markets check out the produce section, then go and compare it to a Hy Vee or a Whole Foods.

I think the Wal Mart neighborhood markets are targeted toward lower income customers. but theyre just fine for anyone needing non perishable items.
