Here's the number of people who've lost their coverage due to the ACA.

The GOP has been reiterating 5 million Americans will lose their healthcare coverage thanks to Obamacare, based on a figure of 4.7 million.

Turns out, the actual number is 10,000 in 18 counties. In a nation of 300 million+ and over 3,000 counties.

Of the 4.7 million the GOP has claimed will lose coverage, half can renew their 2013 plans thanks to an adjustment made by the Obama administration, another 1.5 million have access to tax credits and Medicaid, and everybody else will have access to an affordable plan where they live -- except for 10,000 people.

That's not good information for those 10,000 people, and adjustments should be made to provide some options for those people. And all behemoths like the ACA have some collateral damage, but again, something should be done to provide these folks options.

But a plan designed to insure 30 million people over ten years and bend the cost curve of health coverage has a much smaller imprint (about 500 times smaller) than many of the detractors of the ACA.

10,000. Those are the people whose cancellation notices truly left them in the cold under the ACA. 99% otherwise have ample options.

Considering how flimsy the evidence usually is for arguments made round these parts, I am looking forward to seeing how some of my fellow DC denizens will now attempt to debunk this extremely well footnoted and referenced government document.

Ginger, get the popcorn.

I believe the promise was that people would be able to keep their old health care plans. Those 4.7 million people basically got cancelled by their provider based on a poorly implemented attempt at reform and re-underwritten at what may have been unfavorable terms. JMO.

I don't disagree.

If we're arguing that the President was duplicitous in his selling of the "keep your plan" drumbeat, then that's fine.

If we're arguing that 500 x's more people are losing coverage because of the ACA than there actually are, then that's not.

Wait, what? If I'm reading this right, they are INDEED losing their coverage. The fact that they can get new coverage is a separate issue, no?

Half of them are losing their old plans (the other half can renew it thanks to the administrative fix).

Only 10,000 of them are losing coverage.

But, I'm sure that Mr. Waxman is a bastion of truthfulness with his study. After all, what Democrat would lie about your health insurance?

That's... not exactly a counterargument. But have at it.
