Sac's 2015 Chiefs Mock Draft

Going with Direckshun's compensatory prognostications for this mock.

Based on the history of the Dorsey regime (two drafts now), this is what the Chiefs do for 2015:

1. Stefon Diggs, WR; University of Maryland: 6'0", 195 lbs.
- Because most drafturbators considered the 2014 class to be one of, if not the best, WR classes ever, the Chiefs will draft one in 2015 instead and Diggs is the guy. A complete athletic freak when healthy, with speed to burn. Injury history will not be an issue for Dorsey, especially when he blows up the combine.

2. Benardrick McKinney, ILB/OLB; Mississippi State: 6'5", 245 lb.
- A junior this year, McKinney is a very athletic, long player who is capable of effectively dropping back into coverage as he is rushing the passer. Originally recruited as a QB, he made the switch to LB after a redshirt season and set a freshman record with 102 tackles in 2012. Fast and smooth. Will seriously look at the NFL as he's already red-shirted a season, especially if he has another solid year. Plays inside and out and has a lot of upside. Will likely test extremely well in combine drills.

3. Rashard Greene, WR; Florida State: 6'0", 180 lbs.
- The leading receiver for the Seminoles for three straight years. Excellent hands and route running. Yeah, the Chiefs could have had Donte Moncrief in the third round in the 2014 draft, but decided to pass and now filled with regrets and understandings that their receiving corps are freaking horrible, they take another receiver here.

3. Cody Prewitt, S; Ole Miss: 6’2”, 212 lbs.
-Prewitt was an absolute ball hawk for the Rebels in 2013 with six interceptions. I’m not certain that they’ll spend this high of a draft pick on a safety, but if they don’t get the production out of Sanders Commings that they hope to and Dan Sorensen doesn’t pan out, they might have to.

4. Carl Davis, DT/DE; Iowa: 6'5", 315 lbs.
- While Dorsey seems to be completely infatuated with timed/measured numbers as it relates to prospects, he realizes that there needs to be some level of beef up front. Davis will be able to play inside or outside as a nose or a five tech.

4. Tyrus Thompson, OT; Oklahoma: 6’5”, 330 lbs.
- I really can’t figure out what Dorsey is looking for in an offensive lineman. He seems to value drill numbers a lot from his skill position players and offensive tackles, but he has no problem taking dumptrucks for the interior offensive line (Schwartz, Linkenbach, Fulton (who had the slowest cone drill at the entire 2014 Combine), etc.). Allen hasn’t had his breakout and there still isn’t anybody of proven worth behind him at the guard spots. The position can’t be neglected much longer.

5. Storm Woods, RB; Oregon State: 6’0”, 210 lbs.
- Woods is a nice runner who excels in the passing game. Is patient, hits his holes well, accelerates nicely and has some wiggle to him. Would fit in with the West Coast system very well. Did have a nasty concussion against Utah early in the 2013 season, but came back and played solid after sitting out a couple of weeks.

5. Wayne Lyons, CB; Stanford: 6’1”, 195 lbs.
- At this point in the draft, Lyons is about as good as it’s going to get for the position, and the Chiefs will likely be in the position of needing quality depth at the CB spot depending on how Cooper progresses and what type of player they have in Gaines.

6. Jake Smith, C; Louisville: 6’4”, 304 lbs.
- Rod Hudson will be a FA after the 2014 season. While they probably resign him, you can’t be too sure and Smith looked pretty darn good when watching Bridgewater this past season and has been a very solid three year starter (two at OG and last season at C). On the 2014 Rimington Trophy watchlist.

6. Terrance Plummer, ILB; Central Florida: 6’2”, 241 lbs.
- Pretty solid linebacker who has played both inside and outside for the Knights.

7. Quinn Epperly, QB; Princeton: 6’1”, 220 lbs.
- Dual threat QB who was originally going to commit to Texas A&M, then they signed Johnny Football. Decided to take the Princeton scholarship offer and has kicked ass ever since. 25 TD’s to 3 Ints and ran for another 18 TDs in 2013.

Fields is under investigation for domestic violence. GF doesn't want to press charges but police are required to do a report.

He would be lucky as **** to get into the 2nd round. Last year was a train wreck for him. He showed up out of shape and had disciplinary issues. The injury saved him from a very underwhelming year.

He can wreck shit but his motivation and behavior are questionable.

No QB until the 7th round? So Alex for a 3rd year of fail? Or are you hoping for the Bray show to take off in 2015?

I was thinking about Ohio State's Braxton Miller around the fifth, but felt that Epperly was actually the better QB and would be cheaper in the draft.

And I'm pretty sure that they'll sign Smith. They'd be really, really stupid if they didn't. He's a really solid QB that fits the system extremely well. They isn't a QB in the next draft that comes close to what he provides athletically, in intelligence and decision making on the field. The offense responds to him and he had a good year despite a really bad situation in terms of what he had to work with in a brand new system.

So, no, I am not about spending a high draft choice on a QB that won't be even close to what Smith gives you. You sign the guy and put some weapons around him. (Though they really didn't do that in 2014 when the chance was there.)

Newly updated. Changed out Fields for McKinney. While Fields is a talent, I agree with KC Native in that he's a complete basket case that delves into the dangerous off the field.

Watch us draft the Iowa OL in the first. That's a classic Chiefs pick.

It will come down to what information Dorsey gives to the Decision Lens people and what name is at the top of the list that the computer spits out that's still on the board when the Chiefs pick.

By the last two drafts, you can somewhat see the type of players they are looking for.

We need one to replace the one we got to replace the one we had.

Half of cp would rejoice if we went all OL.

What they really need is one solid offensive guard. Actually, I'd take two and have Jeff Allen be our offensive line swing guy. They could even take Kush and move him over to the right guard spot, but, for some reason, they haven't.

Reid likes power guys for the interior spots, and a guy like Tyrus Thompson fits the bill. He's not at the same level as a guy like Baylor's Cyril Richardson from last year (who really should have been our fourth round selection - no slight intended to DAT, but the hole at the OG position is much wider than the one we had at PR/KR), but he's got talent and size.

However, they could look at the position as a "BPA" type thing and go OL in the first. Someone like Florida State's Cameron Erving (who I really like) or LSU's La'el Collins (who has potential to be a complete stud at any of the guard or tackle positions, though I'd love to see him at LG for the Chiefs) would fit the bill in terms of just getting the most talented OL prospect in and shuffle the line accordingly.
