***Official CP Homebrew American IPA Collaboration Poll - Yeast***
Now that we've identified American IPA as our style, it's time to pick the yeast we'll be using to ferment.
Also, the poll to decide ABV is open for another 24 hours here For simplicity sake, I'm going to select a couple of the more popular IPA yeasts and try my best to include comparable strains from the major labs (Wyeast, White Labs, Omega, Fermentis, etc) into one polling option. Some of the comparable strains will not be exact. I'll also include links for descriptors, substitution charts, online retailers, and a homebrew shop directory by state. If you have a prefered strain that isn't listed, you can vote Other and write it in. The specific yeast vote is for recipe listing only. My local homebrew shop sells Wyeast and Omega exclusively, so you can obviously use whatever is available to you. Also, the recipe will be for a 5 gallon batch. I scale mine down to 3.5 due to my capacity and can assist anyone else in scaling theirs. Useful Links:

Either Ale I or Ale II. I don't know enough about yeasts yet to give a proper vote, so either one.

I've used the White Labs WLP001 in a couple of SNPA clones, so I voted for that one. I really don't have a lot of knowledge about yeast strains though, so am ok with any of them.

I use 1318 quite a bit now (currently have a starter going). It helps to achieve those hazy ipas that are popular now.
The Sierra Nevada strain is probably the most versatile and accessible to everyone though, so I'm good with using it as well. |
