I generally abhor hospital shows. My wife could recite Greys Anatomy lines as they're being said. You name it, she watches it.

The only halfway tolerable show I'd seen was House, and just because the guy was such a hilarious asshole to his staff and patients alike.

She started this one yesterday, and it was able to draw my interest away from my phone and actually give a shit what's happening.

I think the single shift format is the biggest hook, and everything seems pretty fast paced.

Some of the subject matter was pretty ****ing brutal, so it may not be for everyone.

I'm not easily bothered by things on TV but

Spoiler!

Yea, that episode got me too. Probably my favorite episode of the series so far. But eh entire show is just so well done. Only unreal thing might be the amount of life or death situations that have happened in the 10 hours so far in the shift. But thankfully they show a lot of routine/urgent care as well.

I'm sure there were days no one died on me but I don't remember a single day.

One of the first things you must have down pat when you are on the code blue team was when you leave the room where you are dealing with a life threatening situation, make your face neutral. Practice it a mirror. Don't give away shit, the Doctor needs to give the bad news.

I had a student walk into my room on a few seconds after I started scanning a routine OB ultrasound and there was multiple abnormalities APKD , Dandy walker , anhydramnios and probably more shit I couldn’t see due to lack of fluid , as soon as she saw the screen she let out a loud gasp and back peddled herself up against the door , had a little talk about here working on her poker face.

If you are working in a hospital. you have a moral commitment to do no harm. The poker face is a part of that.

The patients are already stressed out and you make them even more stressed because you cant control your emotions? Not acceptable at all.

I agree , she was an Older student who had gone into ultrasound from the business world , had not been exposed to much healthcare stuff , hell she had to pull over in her drive home because she was crying too much after her first cancer find .

It is harder in a small town though just found an ovarian CA on a friend last week , she is trying to do small talk while I have a probe in her vagina trying to figure out this mass , do you chat it knowing she has cancer like it’s a normal day do you go quiet , some patients talk just because they are anxious , so talking helps , just the transvag on my friends wife is awkward enough .
