Dad is on is last his last leg. Took me a month to find a home less than $4000. Health care sucks in the USA. Never knew their was nursing-home care insurance. Live and learn. Thanking BTC about now.

My GFs grandma is in a nursing home that is a smidge better than your average college dorms. In the middle of nowhere.

Is it a racket though? The amount of care required for people in that situation is staggering. If it was easy we'd all gladly perform the care ourselves at home. There's no easy answers to this situation...it's a bitch.

This. We took care of dad in his own home until no longer possible.

One, it was his home. Not a nursing home, and
Two, it was his wishes. He knew what it would cost. He didn't want to spend it. He also wanted the comforts and quiet of his own home. Not a nursing home where people could be heard screaming.

Freaking sad, expensive, and a lot of work for understaffed homes. Not a good situation all around.

Prayers smed. Been there, done that.

The system for seniors that need assisted care is horrible. Mother in-law was in one that was almost $10, 000 a month. The place was terrible, smelled of urine and crap. One time she told us that dinner consisted of a ice cream scoop of tuna salad and saltines. Reform is needed in this area.
