I have been wondering since last yer, look at some of the top D's,they have 3-4's.Is it because gun doesn't want to or because we don'treally need to.I think it could do our D alot of good.

Cuz they watched Oakland's defense play, maybe?

Maybe because of the severe underuse of our salary cap we have some unfit players this year. I will not metion who these players are. But maybe they are incapable of palying 3-4 plays.

Simple answer, Linebackers.
We don’t have enough big athletic ones to run a 3-4.

We don't have good enough linebackers at this point.

Because we have overinvested in DT's for the past 4 years and it would be stupid.

Downing Our 1st pick in 01 (Third round)
Sims our first pick in 02 (first round)
Freeman our 2nd pick in 02 (2nd round)
Saivii our first pick in 04 (2nd round)

We have drafted DT's to run a 4-3

Instead of looking for a silver bullet to fix the D (Change to a 3-4) we need to invest in the Defense outside of Defensive Tackels. We need young talent at DE, LB, and in the backfield.

We need to draft a CB, DE, and LB in the first three rounds of the upcoming draft.

Hell, we don't really have good enough LBs to run a 5-2.... :banghead:

See others agree with me. We should have used the rest of our cap.

I was wondering this as well. I don't think the LB's are good enough but, hell, our secondary isn't good enough to run a 2-9 and that's not really stopping us from pressing on the edges.

I always liked the 3-4 utilizing the fastest, smartest, most athletic, as a spy.

It couldn't really hurt too much at this point.

Yeah, but that doesn't count. I mean Warren Sapp lined up on the outside makes no sense to me... :hmmm:

no kidding, but based on our talent level.. it could be interesting to see us try a 5-2, just because we have more DT's that are pretty good compared to LB's that suck!

Hey, we ran the 5-2 in high school. ‘Course we also faced an offense that still ran the Wing T, just for reference.

I agree with the concensus...not enough QUALITY LB's

Heck I'm not convinced we have the Dlinemen to run it. Sims certainly isn't the answer at NT. Siavii might be. Who would be the linemen to pick up the blockers and let the linebackers persue?

Also our best linebacker past Fuj is Mitchell. That speaks volumes to the quality of our LB corp.

We don't have a NT. Our best DE (Allen) isn't suited for a 3-4 and we don't have the LB's for a 3-4. Other than that, it's a good fit.

IMO, Beisel is the best backer next to Fujita.

8 months ago I thought Fox was a good pick. I can't believe he can't crack the lineup with this sorry bunch of players.

If you average the size of the down lineman in a 3-4 they tend to average about 10 lbs more than in a 4-3 alignment. But since there is one less lineman the extra missing 300 lbs has to be made up in the mass of the LB crew. And it isn't enough to have just big guys they have to be fast enough to handle the pass coverage.

Technically when we had DT he was the falcon in what passed for a 3-4 in passing downs. Now everyone knew he was coming but that didn't make any difference. I think we have the base for a good line defense it just needs better LBs. Going into this season I thought our Safeties would be our strength instead they have been the biggest drop off in play.

Lets just go 11-0-0. Punt block formation every down.

Well, we'd certainly assure ourselves that the offense would be touching the ball more often.....

considering that the D-Line has been the lone bright spot (if you can call them that) of the defense, they'd have to be border-line insane to remove a D-Lineman for another one of our crappy LBs.

We don't have anybody as a DT to dominate the middle.

We don't have enough good LB's to play a good 3 - 4 .

It comes down to lack of skilled players.

Lil stumpy, the Chiefs barely have one decent linebacker, why on earth would we want 4 of them on the field?

On a few plays yesterday, it looked like we were playing a 0 0 0. We pay as well not have had anyone on the field.
