Signing the greatest living RB still leaves the question mark of your Oline unanswered. Your Oline has failed to open holes consistently ever since the end of last season.

Now, for the backs we have, our OL sucks, but put in a very good back and the small holes and creases will become very large...

And do we really care if Dillon is all about $$$?...aren't most of today's players?...Dillon would be a good fit for the Chiefs...if there are other options for less money and equal quality, pursue them...otherwise, a quality RB is one of the last pieces of the Chiefs puzzle...

I am not denying that he is a good back, or that he would/could improve the chiefs...I was mearly implying that he may be discussing longterm contract options to gain negotiating power with FA pursuers..

there will be other options if he does resign.

there are very few RBs like Barry Sanders that can look for the smallest of holes and if its not there, re-direct and make a gain around the corner. If our O-line becomes any less stable, God help any player behind it.

If anyone watched MNF last night, you got to see a no name RB put up a monster night. The OL plays a significant role in the success/failure of the running game. It can be evidenced in Denver where 3 different RB's have excelled in that offense.

KC's 'base blocking', 'straight up', style of blocking for the running game is not going to succeed. It's another of a long list of failed philosophies that this team needs to rid itself of.

Iowa, no doubt he's going to use all the tricks in the book to get all the bucks he can...I can't really blame him...I guess my whole point and I hope Carl is smart enough to realize this, is that we MUST have a premier running back, an every down guy, a RB that gets yards with or without a great line...it makes me sick...we find our passing game and we can't run...we run and we don't pass (years past)...but what really makes me sick is having to talk about next season with four games remaining in this one... :(

It is true that we need to rebuild our OL, but it is misguided to look at the current line and draw any conclusions. We went into the season with Tait, Szott, Grunhard, Shields and Riley. We now have Tait, Shields and Riley. The current OL is a makeshift affair, a temporary hovel trying to replace the grand edifice that graced KC for years.

It is misguided to judge the performance of a car when it is running on the donut spare. It is just as misguided to judge the Chiefs OL by its current makeshift condition.

We will reorganize the OL in the off-season. It may be a year or two before they dominate again, but they will be better than they are right now.

Titus, exactly what I'm saying...with mediocre RBs like we have, you have to have a great run blocking OL...but with a quality RB...all the OL has to do is open a small hole...not to say our line doesn't need improvement...it does...but I think it is good enough if we have a better RB...

One thing that is encouraging...the pass protection has been pretty good...

Now I wonder though, is our line so bad or is that other teams have just figured out our unimaginative offensive schemes?

i agree an every down back would change this team, however, I'm afraid Dillon would end up in a "package" and under-utilized like the others...

The scary part is after all the years of first round O-linemen. (Jenkins, Tait, Riley) and all the money spent on O-linemen in FA (Blackshear, Parker, The joker who we shipped to Jax, whose name escapes me). Offensive line will be an off-season priority. especially if Shields moves on, Grunhard and Szott retire. I can see a guard coming to KC in round one... but thats not Carls fault is it? How was he supposed to forsee Shields leaving? Just because held out and refused to sign long-term. And didnt everyone think Dave and Tim would play at least 20-30 years? God Save the King!!!

I'm frustrated by this BS...the coaches tell us who the starting back will be and then they play him one series...true he started though...I wonder what goes on in those idiots minds?...IMO, Cloud and Richardson should be the RBs and each should get the ball at least 15 times a game...if I were coach, especially now that the playoffs are out...I'd do exactly what you say...I'd put Cloud in and give him the ball til he puked and then give it to Richardson...I think Cloud has what it takes if they give him half a chance...<P>

I think it's best to leave the argument of "He's only in it for the money" alone. Aren't we all in it for the money to a degree, regardless of profession? I know that I would accept major cash/benefits to stay with an organization that I could tolerate and still do my job... it would depend on the situation.

Now, this is not an intended smack towards KC... but, think about Dillon for a moment. Then, think about all the things related to KC that you guys have been b*tching about for the last few seasons. Peterson, 3 stooges, Gunther, Grbac, etc... is it really all that more attractive for Dillon to leave Cincy for KC, if the money wasn't all that much better?

Davis, along with Shanahan and the other guys that Shanahan brought to Denver (Ed, Romo, Neil, Traylor, Gibbs, etc) are what finally won the SuperBowls. Don't get me wrong, TD was a HUGE factor, but it all started with Shanahan and his coaching staff.

So, I guess it begs the question...
Does KC run out and sign Dillon with the coaches they have and try to win it all? Or, does KC overhaul the coaching staff and then go after the players and try to win it all?

Titus - Your post is something I have been waiting to read by someone else other then it just sitting in my own brain. The run it up the middle can work to a degree, but most big yards come when there are lanes for a player to pick from and shoot through. There always seems to be a LB in our way when we try to run through the gaps, and it seems pretty easy to shut it down. I think there needs to be a mix of the type of running plays, some up the gut, some cut backs, and some pitch outs (NOT TO BENNETT!!!).

I still can't figure out how we can not make more out of the backfield of TR and Anders, you can fake the hand off to Anders and hit TR out in the flat, fake to TR and try to pass to Anders... Ughhh, so many diff things and we don't do any of them.
