Voltron coming to the big screen
Posted on Tue, 26-Jul-2005
Seems the latest movie ideas are arising from typical Saturday afternoon Garage Sale.
Take those "Voltron" toys from Ma and whack them back in the cupboard though kids - they're about to come back into style. Unless, of course, friendly Producer offers to pay your way through college - then, maybe, consider handing him the plastic figure.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the popular kid's cartoon "Voltron" - I was a little too old for it, but I'm pretty sure my younger brother was a flag-flyer for it - is coming to the big screen. No doubt, as a challenger for the "Transformers" movie that was also recently greenlit.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Veteran producer Mark Gordon has teamed with music producer Pharrell Williams, World Events Prods. and producers Mark Costa and Ford Oelman to make a big-budget feature of the 1980s giant robot kids TV series and toy sensation.
The World Events "Voltron" animated TV series debuted in 1984, about at the same time as Hasbro's Transformers toy line, igniting a morphing robot phenomenon. The story being developed will be based on the 1980s series about five maverick explorer-pilots who must travel to the planet Arus to learn how to operate Voltron, a giant mechanical warrior formed by five smaller robots.
Imagine the poor sod coming to audition for the part of Voltron's rear-end. Sad, but true.
