For all those who are looking to the College ranks for the possible QBOF...here is your guy:

Woodrow "Woody" Dantzler of the Clemson Tigers, who today rushed for 161 yards and passed for 157 yards in todays win. Dantzler is a junior QB(I believe)who stands about 6'2" or 6'3". He can run and has a pretty good arm.

All you guys who are calling for a QBOTF, should take a look at this guy. He has speed, a decent arm and with his mobility is going to be a first round pick of he doesn't get injured.

I'll take a look at him.

Who'd he get those stats against?

It would be nice to have an intelligent, mobile, occasionally improvisational, strong armed QB. But it's really a moot point anyway because the Chiefs don't like mobile QB's.<BR>

Mark,

I am a (admittedly minor) Clemson fan. The only reason that Woody Dantzler is doing any good is because of the coaching of Tommy Bowden, who is probably superior to his Dad IMO. The turn around he has brought to that program is incredible. Dantzler may be a good player, but all the Clemson fans are amazed by the numbers he is putting up now. Under West (the previous coach) he was nothing but a scrambling threat. Tommy Bowden used to coach Tulane (as you probably know) and he brought them from total obscurity to national prominence recently, with Shaun King as QB. So maybe he is going to make a player out of Dantzler also, but I wouldn't jump on the bandwagon yet. Still, stranger things have happened.

Cannibal, that game was against Wake Forest.

Cormac:

I watched this kid play HS ball(my old boss was friends with Dantzler's father) and he was a man amongst boys.

As for his play under West vs. Bowden, well that would be akin to comparing the playing skills of someone who played for Don Shula vs Gunther Cunningham. West was a complete idiot at Clemson and it didn't take long to show it.

Living here in SC among (WAY TOO MANY)Clemson fans I can tell you that almost all of them were crying that Dantzler was being under-utilized in his previous years. I would agree that Bowden will make a player out of him. Having watched him this year I can tell you that I am impressed with his skills. And all you have to do is look at what he added in the 62-9 pasting that they laid on the Mizzou Tigers to know he isn't a fluke.

Marques Tuisasasopo Ran for 200 and passed for 300 against Stanford last year..

First time ever that has happened....Joe

Thinks Marques will be a fine QB in the NFL.....

mmaddog,

As I pointed out, Shaun King is a good NFL QB that came from Tommy Bowden's system. I am not saying that Dantzler won't be good, but from seeing him in spot duty in his first 2 (?) years it's just hard to imagine he's that good all of a sudden. Credit to the coaches.

BTW, I forgot you were from SC.

Cormac:

I probably needed to make it clearer that I agree that Bowden will make a better player out of him. I just think that he needed someone with half a brain to teach him things he never had to deal with in HS.

With West as a coach he was pretty much looked upon as a RB possibility, and never given the chance to take the net step in the process of learning what it takes to be a QB in college. And the reason that you didn't see much of him last year is because Clemson had a pretty good QB already. He got injured in the next to last game of the year and screwed up Clemson's chances of getting a good bowl bid.
