Between running one's home air conditioning and one's furnace? For me, it's two weeks, minimum. It was 84 degrees on Saturday (AC) and now it's 31 and snowing. The wife is threatening to take the kids to my parents if I don't allow her to turn on the heat. I'm refusing.

Is 58 degrees REALLY that cold?

58 degrees is cold for inside.

58 isn't that cold. Just put on some extra clothes.

Yes, 58 degrees is cold. You wanna see cold, look in her eyes during your divorce.

Nonsense. Yes, it's a little chilly. But that's why clothes were invented.

Ha. I just checked the thermostat, and it's a balmy 61 degrees now.

Hell, my wife starts complaining when it gets down to 70 degrees. Freakin cold blooded women, in more ways than one.

THEN WHY ASK THE QUESTION IF MY OPINION'S JUST GONNA BE NONSENSE

You didn't answer my question.

* Edit - meaning the timeframe question.

I answered your last question, which I'm sure was rhetorical.

All your wife needs is for somebody to come over and warm her up.

Win/Win.

To your question, I'd never let it get to 58 in my house cause it'd be worth turning on the heat to stop my wife's complaining. I could live with it though.

I answered your last question, which I'm sure was rhetorical.

Right. But for me, I refuse to turn on the heat less than two weeks after running the A/C.

It's a time issue; not a temperature issue.

The temp should dictate the timeframe, not the calender.

Normally you'd get away with that just by default and the seasons.

The extremes you're experiencing are a result of global warming so you better just deal with it and turn on the heat.

Once we're all riding bikes to work things will be back to normal.

I have one of those digital therostats that keeps the house between 68 and 70, period. It decides if it needs to use the heat or AC to get that done. I'd prefer 64-66 but the wife and kids demand more.

Just as a side note, don't you want the wife wearing LESS clothing? I'd jack the heat up to 90 if she'd get naked more.

Traitor!

ROFL Actually in my house I am the one with low blood pressure and wants the heat on. However, she is ready for the air conditioner before the trees have any buds on them.

I understand you want to avoid the use of the units if you can, but really.. what difference does 2 weeks make?
Time isn't the issue because it really has no bearing on this.

I love how that damn global warming makes it hot, it makes it cold, it makes it inbetween, it makes it rain, it makes it dry...

I dunno, I just wish the whole global warming thing would get back to normal so the price of gas would come down.

He's a true conservative that really enjoys those two weeks cause he thinks he's getting by without spending money.

Global warming will be over the day scientists and fear-mongers quit getting govt. grants to "study" it.

Im not sure about a time frame, but here in Mo. it could probably be measured in hours! Like it has been said if you don't like Missouri weather stick around about 30 min and it will change!

you would never make it down here then, one day the heat might be on and the next day the air.....ROFL

There is no acceptable timeframe.

You run the AC when it is too hot to be comfotable in your house.

You run the heat when it is too cold to be comfortable in your house.

Rinse, repeat...

Is this about having some free time without the wife and kids for the MNF game??? Because if it isn't you should get ur ass up out the computer chair and turn on the heat. If I was married to you... It would have been blasting already!!

I was, of course, bluffing. Which my beloved called some hours ago. It's now 72 degrees.

My wife and I very rarely ever fight, so I occasionally invent these issues in order to justify make-up sex.
