I'm not expecting the Hawks to win this game. I really just want them to play well and for the youngsters to see how hard they'll have to work if they want to beat the best teams in college basketball. This team will be better off in the long run for it. Come tournament time KU could be a force to be reckoned with.

They are trying to sell a new network to cable companies. It's their first step on the path toward the dream that is "The Ocho".

Uh, yeah. They lost Simien, Miles, Langford, and Lee (along with a couple scrubs) to graduation. They are a freshman and sophomore dominated team. They have 2 seniors that were both originally walk-ons (Moody is now under scholarship) and no juniors.

Arizona dude bringing the ball up, decided to pick up his dribble around the time line, then decided against it and kind of flipped it forward with 2 hands, like he was about to shoot a free throw. Then started dribbling again.

I personally thought that this was one of the worst officiated games I have ever seen. Arizona double-dribbled twice, fouled several times (especially cutting the legs of players under the basket twice) without being called. We were called for fouls we didn't commit, and the fouls we did commit were not called.

On one breakaway by Arizona, the official blew his whistle and he wasn't even looking at where the foul was. And if he had been looking, he was screened by the offensive player and would not have been able to see the foul occur.

We played sloppy, they let off after the big lead. I was impressed with the fact that we did not run and hide after they jumped up to that big lead.

One final question:

WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH RUSH CONTINUALLY LOSING THE HANDLE ON THE BALL WHEN HE IS ABOUT TO FINISH.

|Zach|
11-22-2005, 01:57 AM
I was impressed with the fact that we did not run and hide after they jumped up to that big lead.

Really?

ChiefsFanatic
11-22-2005, 02:16 AM
Really?

Yes. I think a young team can really get down on themselves. Young teams are also prone to letting their mistakes drag them down even further.

I suppose you knew we would not wilt under the pressure. I didn't know how they would respond to actual competition.

Also, this would be my starting lineup:

Chalmers at 1
Downs at 2
Rush at 3
Giles at 4
Kaun at 5

Hawkins and Robinson just get too sloppy with the ball. Robinson would dribble to the baseline or sideline and pick up his dribble, he keeps trying to make weak layups that get smacked down. He is a good defender, and just barely adequate handling the ball. Chalmers is just bigger and more physical than Hawkins.

I also believe that Downs has the ball handling ability and certainly is more of a scoring threat than either Robinson or Hawkins at the 2. he needs to work on defense.

The rest is pretty self-evident.

And once again, is it just me, or does it seem like Rush becomes butterfingers when he is about to finish?

Flame away.

In the referees' defense, it's next to impossible to officiate a game that sloppily played. That may have been one of the ugliest games I've ever seen, only tempered by the fact that it's real early in the season. But with that said, I would expect either coach to install some sort of offense in practice, but all I saw was guys running around and throwing the ball away. It looked like a game between two bad Chicago public league teams.

Despite the fact that they're very young and will struggle this year, the Jayhawks are still a powerhouse. They have a huge fanbase and the networks know that. Besides, they really didn't know who would be playing in the consolidation game. Upsets are not uncommon, especially in early season tournaments like this. I can't believe Arizona is the 8th best team in the NCAA either.
Pre-season polls suck.

Lots of teams are mis-ranked including Arizona.

Lots of teams come out flat in the early going. At least Arizona won their game and actually doubled the "spread" of 5.5 points.

#2 Texas ALMOST lost West Virgina
#7 Kentucky lost to Iowa
#12 Michigan State lost to Hawaii
#19 Syracuse lost to Florida
#20 Maryland lost to Gonzaga

That was just last night.

Only point is that the pre-season polls are worthless in large part because good teams start off slow, bad teams have all off season to prepare for thier first opponent. Upsets mean little this time of year, just like the polls.

I fully expect that Arizona will improve significantly by the time conference play rolls around. And I think KU will similarly improve (if not more) in that same span. By the end of the year, I think KU and AZ will be at about the same level... and I hope we can meet again in the tourney.

This is my favorite non-conference rival and I'm disappointed we didn't continue our home-and-home series after Roy left. I hope we can restart it with Self.

Maryland lost to a higher ranked Gonzaga.
And the IA vs Kentucky and West Virginia vs Texas were both battles between two top 20 teams on a neutral court. Not exactly what I consider upsets, at least not very big upsets.

How about this sign:

Shoplifting at Wal*Mart but not losing your athletic scholarship— lucky
Pulling on your jersey and acting like a clown after every routine play— classless
Not making an all-conference team the season you were supposed to jump to the NBA — disappointing
Attacking a guy half your size with in a 10-1 situation — cowardly
Getting run out of town after said pint-size nearly cuts your leg off — priceless

Well that game just made me ill

we can't shoot, can't handle the ball

apparently self has done nothing but work on defense thus far.

he truly is gonna turn us into Illinois part 2 ... ugly street slop ball.

high/low offense just sucks

Self is a great recruiter, but i have yet to see him actually coach anything. :(

We lost our poise several times, but we'll be okay.

We've got some ballers, some shooters, and some serious athletes. We just need some leaders

Welcome to the club. At least he's actually a good recruiter, not just a perceived good recruiter. And at least he develops his talent a little bit...

Getting run out of town after said pint-size nearly cuts your leg off — priceless

or this one:
Criswell shoulda aimed for the carotid

Those are all very good.
