Playing the Jazz in game 2.

Really they came back to earth in the fourth quarter of game 1, which they lost because all of those three-pointers they were nailing against Dallas stopped going in.

Their shooting is horrible against Utah right now, even though they only down by six at the moment.

But they're being outrebounded by the Jazz right now by 22-9 midway through the second quarter. They're not getting second shots and the Jazz are getting plenty.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 07:57 PM
Warriors are also fouling the crap out of the Jazz because they keep getting the ball deep inside off those offensive rebounds.

I think just about every Warriors starter is in foul trouble.

Edit: Of course, just as I say that, it's a 1 point game.

They're also missing on a lot of their best looks.

And now, they're down seven points going into halftime.

I like GS but do not think they have what it would take to go further.

I like gritty teams actually.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 08:09 PM
Well that is the Warriors this offseason, no question. 100% grit.

Speaking of which, they nailed a three pointer as the first half buzzer goes off.

As bad as they got dominated, they're only down five at the half.

But the first half did not look good at all. Jazz scored at will.

I brought that up, re: Pam Oliver yes indeed ee, she is hot. But concentrating on your thread, It goes back to match-up problems. No matter what/which sport discussed; there will always be match-up's that favor some, while harming the others.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 08:24 PM
I'll give this to the Warriors, they are crowding Boozer and Williams, and forcing Kirilenko to beat them with shooting. And I mean force. Every time Kirilenko touches the ball, the Warriors literally step away to make him shoot the ball. That is a heavy-handed strategy if I've ever seen one.

Kirilenko's got 15 points so far (he's only an 8 ppg scorer), but that jumpshot of his always looks awful. Let Kirilenko stack up the numbers; better him than someone with an actual stroke.

The Jazz just seem to be doing their thing, with no out-of-the-ordinary strategy. They're not really doing anything special to slow down Baron Davis (who has 18 points -- not the guy you want getting hot if you're Utah), they're still doubling the low post even when the Warriors love getting that open three, and they're not really funneling their offense into Boozer, which is surprising.

They're just absorbing the Warriors' offensive burst, confident that they themselves are going to score just about every time down the floor off offensive rebounds.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 08:38 PM
Three threes in a row by Golden State. They're in bad position in this game, but they're not going away.

Five point lead, Utah.

Baron Davis is driving at will against Williams. Williams has 3 fouls trying to contain him and is lucky he doesn't have more.

Simply Red
05-09-2007, 08:40 PM
wow JUST WOW!

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 08:41 PM
Kirilenko -- two turnovers when the Warriors play off of him, forcing him to do something. He keeps trying to force passes or something because he knows he can't shoot, and the Warriors are all over his passing lanes.

It doesn't hurt that they keep hitting threes.

One point lead, Utah.

What's funny though, is that Utah is dominating the boards, yet they're just winning only by 4. It's like a game where Utah should has been up by 15+.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 08:47 PM
Here's something that's going to hurt the Warriors down the road in this game.

Davis, 2 fouls.
Richardson, 3 fouls.
Barnes, 2 fouls.
Harrington, 3 fouls.
Jackson, 3 fouls.
Biedrins, 3 fouls.
Pietrus, 3 fouls.

Really not looking good for the Warriors, even though they're only down two.

Davis running all over Williams again, who just got a 4th foul desperately trying to contain him.

With Dee Brown injured, and Derek Fisher MIA, PG is a position of pain right now for the Jazz.

ONE POINT LEAD, GOLDEN STATE.

You can BET that having no real PG at the moment is killing Utah's direction. Fisher walking on doesn't help too much.

Edit: Utah counters before the quarter expires. 1 point lead, Utah, end of 3rd.

Golden State did a GREAT job in the third quarter on fouling.

As bad as their fouling situation is, no single player has accumulated 4 fouls for the Warriors. They've negated that weakness.

Strategies:

Utah: Has zero direction from PG, will have to go low every single time. Keep killing them on the boards.

Golden State: Start hitting your shots on a regular basis, and this game is yours. Baron Davis, Baron Davis, Baron Davis.

Direckshun
05-09-2007, 09:09 PM
They are.

But they need to find some freakin' way to keep the Jazz from scoring.

I love that they're continuing to give Kirilenko room to shoot. Kirilenko will make shots but he's not going to beat you.

Baron Davis is getting his groove on. Stephen Jackson seems to be warming up. Harrington's in on the action. They just need some semblence of help from their bigs, because Boozer's only going to get more aggressive as the game goes on.

That said, Baron Davis is taking Williams to school tonight. He's also getting the crap fouled out of him.

Three point lead, Utah. Golden State has made both of these away games close, so if they somehow head back to Oakland down 2-0, I doubt they're going to lose confidence.

Golden State made them work incredibly hard for two wins, so I doubt they're going to lose much confidence going back to Oakland.

Utah had to strain dangerously hard to win two games. They're going to have an incredibly hard time finding any luck in Oakland.

To Utah's credit, they're very, very strong at home, even though they're pansies on the road. And Golden State's best chance to swing home court advantage just evaporated.

I'm glad the Jazz won. Started following them back when they drafted Ostertag. Say, what ever happened to that guy anyway? And, of course, I don't really care for GS. Remember people, these are the same fans as the ones at the Rai duhs games.

I always hated that Fisher guy when he played for the Lakers. Well, I respected the guy. He has always been a good player. That's probably why I didn't like him then. He always put daggers into the teams I was pulling for. Glad he is now on a team that I like. The guy is a clutch shooter and a great defender. Can't ask for more.
