Currently 12-10 in July.

Need to win just 1 out of the next 3 to have two winning months in a row.

13 of the 22 games they have played in July so far have been against Cleveland, Detroit, Boston, and New York. Not bad at all.

They've rebounded pretty nicely from those first three ugly games of the homestand. It's good to see them a bit more consistent than years past.

What are Gordon's stats this season to this point now?

.245/.324/.383 7 HR 35 RBI.

It's a strange move by Bell, as Gordon has had most of his success at the 7 spot batting .284/.389/.494 on the season while batting .247/.309/.383 at the 5 spot. He seems to be doing better when the pressure is off, so I don't understand the decision to throw the pressure right back on him.

How do you award a double without an error on a ball that doesnt leave the infield dirt?

No one's that fast, if a guy reaches second on a ball that doesnt leave the infield, someone screwed up.

That was clearly an error on the 2nd baseman. Give Gload the infield single, but he reached second on the error.

So when's the last time we had two winning months in a row?

This was from this morning's KC Star:

The Royals are 12-10 in July after Saturday night’s victory.

Kansas City has a chance to have back-to-back winning months for the first time since 2003, when it went 15-12 in June and 15-11 in July. The Royals were 15-12 last month.

If he blows it in the 9th in a big lead with 3 inning situation does he get a blown save? Honestly I dont know, I doubt it because he is not eligible for a save unless he finishes. Probably academic, if he did that crappy, he'd be pulled way before blowing it.

In other news, it looks like Bonds is going to fail to tie or break the HR record at home today, which means he'll probably do it in LA or San Diego. If its going to be broken, I want it to be done with a background of loud boos and outrage from the fans, so that decades down the road, this wont be remembered as some magical moment like in the old Hank Aaron replay, but instead it will be clear to future fans that this cheating fraud was not well-liked at all.

Correct, although thats usually rare. You'd have to be pretty piss-poor to be denied the 3 inning save these days since it is accomplished so rarely now.

Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- (c) He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game.

I still think we are at least one decent starter away (Nunez maybe?), and I still think we need an "ace" type guy, which as nice as Meche has done this year, I really don't think he is. I'd also like another power bat behind Gordon and Butler in the order.

But yeah, who woulda thunk it. I was prepared to give Moore 2 or 3 years to even get this train wreck headed in the right direction. It's fun to think we might actually have a chance to win most anyday.

07-29-2007, 05:17 PM
The nicest thing is that in just about a year, we've gone from being terrified about our starting pitcher 4 out of every 5 days (or more) to realistically moving toward trying to get 4-5 really solid starters. The Elarton thing was a good sign of that, I think a couple years ago we would've been more tolerant hoping he could find the old form, now we think we're better than that. That we should have a rotation of guys like Meche and Bannister who are gonna go 6-7 innings, give up 3 runs or so, turn it over to a solid bullpen.
