I hate that they basically have no competition. I miss the old CNNSI sports channel.

I do enjoy the NFL Networks "no frills" Sunday and Monday night football shows.

ESPN has it's good and bad, but no way I couldn't tune it in and get some updates from time to time. It's sports.

Sportscenter is terrible. Not so long ago, they'd show highlights of every game that went on that night/night before. Every game. Now it's very few highlights, and the rest is overblown stories (see Romo, Bonds, Clemens, Patriots) and WAY too many "Hot Seats" and "panels" telling us how we should feel and "what will happen."

I listen to ESPN Radio a good portion of the day. And yes, it's a lot of telling me how I should feel and "what will happen", but I expect that from talk radio. I expect to see highlights and brief analysis from a sports "news" show --what Sportscenter used to be.

The one that gets on my nerves is the guy who always says, "Up next, after tackle football."

Thanks for clearing things up there, buddy.

All the SC anchors have to have their stupid little shticks they think are funny. Berman probably started it with his dumbass nicknames.

I wonder how much of your opinion of ESPN/SC is colored by your age.

If you started watching it in the 90s, then it probably seems OK to you.

If you're like me, and started watching it almost from its inception, you've seen it change dramatically from what it used to be. I remember my roommates and me watching it intently in college in the 80s, because it was hardcore sports. The only real schtick then was Berman's, and it was unique and fresh.

But Berman got stale by the early 90s, and then everybody else on that network seemed to be hired based solely on what catchphrase and ironic detachment they could bring to a sportscast. It was less about the sports and more about the ESPN personalities.

Too much hype, too much attitude, too much forced fake hipness for me.

I've seen Black Sheep, but I didn't think it was great enough for a reference to be used.

ESPN trys real hard, like the 50 states in 50 days thing. Then there was the Who's now thing?

The Bronx is burning. Days of Thunder on ESPN Classic.

I agree. Not really because he does good impressions...simply because he doesn't suck as much as the others. His Tenacious D outbursts are great as well...

Yep. Plus Stu Scott's eyeball just keeps pointing further and further away from the other one and ever since I got HD it freaks me out.
