My Dlink DI-524 seems to be giving me troubles again. Every so often, it just decides to not allow the wireless devices to connect. I am tired of this BS and I'm thinking of trying something different. This is my 2nd DI-524. The first one failed on me. It started acting up when I used the scheduling feature a lot. When I got the replacement, I never used the scheduling. It seemed to work okay for awhile. Now it seems to want to not allow the wireless devices to connect for no apparent reason. I do use mac filtering, WEP, and static IP.

Eh, I don't think I want that Rosewill router. It doesn't have a firewall and other security features that I want.

Anyone know anything about Level One routers. I am looking at this one, but can't find any reviews except a few on Newegg.

Or if someone could point me towards an inexpensive router that won't flake out on me over time, that would be great. I think I want something with WPA, mac filtering, and static Ip, if possible.

I have used DLink routers for the past 5 years - no serious problems aside from the range, which is taken care of by a repeater/extender.
Never used a Rosewill router

I kinda like Porter Cable and DeWalt. It's all a matter of opinion, though. Most of it boils down to your bits anyway.

I've used Linksys mostly. It's good for everyday use. You have to restart the think every few months or so, but that only entails pulling the plug for 5 secs.

Phil, you are a freakin' comedian. Don't quit your day job. ;)

I am tired of Dlink's problems. I bought a Lynksis AP a couple years ago and it also went to crap. I just want something that will work well, is reliable, has lots of security features, and is inexpensive. Is that too much to ask?

Yeah, my FIL has one without problems, as well. I think it may be hit and miss. Problem is that I've had 2 misses. Actually, this one has worked fine for the past couple years. But when they start to go bad, they really are a pain in the butt.

I use the predecessor to the 524 (614+) and have never had any problems. Are you sure it's not a setup problem or getting surges? I mean it's just a router, not rocket science.

I always preferred my Netgear to the previous Linksys or D-Link Wifi's that I had.

I had dlink for a while and it dropped connection regularly. I bought a Netgear, still had the problem but not near as often. I then plugged it into a UPS instead of the wall outlet on advice from a buddy. No problems since.

I doubt you want to get this technical but I'd look into getting a router that can support DD-WRT software, which will make your router bad ass. (It can extend range, boost power, etc)

Also, I have had almost every brand and I find it pretty hard to find one that doesn't crap out at some point. My current Linksys one (a year old) quits every other week and sometimes days. We've had to unplug it like 5 times in the last week. It makes me mad. My D-Link was solid years ago but eventually crapped out. I don't know why we went with netgear next but we did and it was okay. Then we went with Belkin's Draft-N which was okay but Xbox Live couldn't connect through it, so we ditched it. And now I'm at my Linksys.

I think its funny we have that many DI-524's on here as I am another user of the DI-524, it has NEVER given me any problems,

UNTIL

today before i even read this thread I could not get my Wife's laptop connected to the wifi network I logged in and reset it and and it has worked fine, although the wife has complained about drops (The Router is in the basement (dumb i know)) as of late but we thought it was because it wanted to connect to some far away open netgear

anyway

I have had Linksys products crap out on me, the DI-524 has been good to me - as i use my network now its stricktly a DI-524 hooked up to a switch with a IPCOP firewall giving DHCP Addresses and Acting as my fire wall, the 524 does the wireless only with WPA

I have also heard good things about the Xytel wireless routers, i heard they were the most bad ass at one point so you may want to look into those

Peace Out

Friggin ironic. Now mine as having problems getting consistent signal as well. I will be surfing right along and then bam, the page will just not load. Hit refresh a couople times and then it loads.

I took my laptop and attached a LAN wire to it and absolutely ZERO problems with surfing. It is either the wireless router of the wireless capability of the laptop.

I will have to pull out my wifes laptop and experiment with both together so see if I get like results.

Just for the record, I worked from my laptop the first 1/2 of the day in Bed today, and it was fine, I had SSH Sessions, Skype, VOIP, and my IM Clients all running at the same time, no problem

It was after this that her's would not connect after turning off

I went with this one. I don't know how it will work out over time, but what the heck. It gets good reviews even though it seems to be a fairly new product.

Find a supported router and flash it.

Find a supported router and flash it.

It doesn't support very new routers, so is it really worth going with an older router to get it?

I like the Triton (http://www.woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=4519) for dedicated table use but use this one (http://woodworking.about.com/od/routers/gr/Bosch1617EVS.htm)for smaller jobs.

I like the Bosch 1617 too. Two bases for plunge and regular work.
