So who was that pitcher, and what did he do with Bannister?

Jenson71
04-22-2009, 07:34 PM
Why the **** does Aviles chug so much cock this year? Royals fans, was last year just an aberration?

Well part of it would have been no one had pitched him before. He was a new guy. Hopefully he picks it up. I don't think we want to go through another Angel Berroa project.

The 2007 Bannister discovered a time machine.

His problem is his batting stance. He steps in the bucket too much and can't get anything on pitches away

Actually, that one was borderline. The first one should have ended it.

the Qes-Tec or whatever it's called showed both to be borderline at best.

it's a pitch that can get called, and the batter definitely should not take it twice. he at least has to try to spoil the pitch if he can't handle it. and the pitcher is smart to place it there again and make both of them make the same decision again or else the game's over.

The Royals have 8 wins on the season. We have scored exactly 2 runs in 3 of them. This team is either going to start hitting and become a huge force or stop pitching and become a disaster.

Do you realistically think it can keep up? It appears our pitching is far outpacing our hitting IMHO up to this point.

The biggest problem i see is that as the weather warms up, so does the hitting, and i don't think we can keep up.

It's getting scary. We've played 14 games. We have scored more than 2 runs only 6 times. Gordon, Butler, Aviles, and Guillen had better get in gear. If we don't have at least 2 of them really pounding the ball by the break, we're in for a long season.

On the plus side, we've got a lot of potential weapons that haven't been firing yet. Maybe 2-3 of those guys get hot and then Hochevar and Bannister win 20 games between the two of them in the 4-5 spots, and this team makes a run.

wild1
04-22-2009, 08:08 PM

I don't think much of Bannister, but he could be fine as a back of the rotation guy.

The question to me is if Davies can keep it together. He significantly reduced his ERA last year versus the rest of his major league career. So is he finally maturing? The Braves' organization doesn't seem to miss on pitchers much.

If he can, then you have a pretty darn good 4 man rotation. Whomever pitches in the other spot, Hochevar/Ponson/other would be a bonus if they were just serviceable.

WilliamTheIrish
04-22-2009, 08:08 PM
Yeah. We really proved him wrong by scoring 2 runs.

He was 5-0 against the Royals. He has ='d his loss total for all of last season. And, the Royals hit many, many hard outs off him tonight and made him work.

Yes, the Royals showed him that it's not always that easy.

This division isn't that bad at all, at least not yet. The fourth place team is 7-8. There is no single great team, but it's not a bad division to this far.

WilliamTheIrish
04-22-2009, 08:15 PM
Worse than the bats... I do not trust this defense. I think this team will hit. But they chop the ball up in the field like union butchers. Combine that with the inability to get the right out at the right time (failing to get two on 3 occasions), and it will haunt us fans.

WilliamTheIrish
04-22-2009, 08:26 PM
On the positive side, our pitching is just ridiculous. 59 runs scored, while giving up 46. That's slam the door shut good. In that respect, Saul G is on target. If the pitching goes south, we tank. But I don't think it will.

PLease let the bats warm up.

We will probably never see that Banny again, but if we can get something close, I'd take it in a heartbeat. I think he can be a 10 win guy going against 4-5 starters on a regular basis. Hochevar should be at least that. 20+ wins out of those 2 combined puts us in pretty good shape.

I know most of you don't get the MLB Network but they have been hyping the Royals from day one...they just had a live interview with Bannister being interviewed by Harold Reynolds, Mitch Williams & Greg Amsinger. Amsinger asked why he thought he was called up over Hochevar when Hochevar has posted much better number in Omaha. Bannister just basically said that he has experience & pitches well vs Cleveland. Reynolds & Williams really got in the controversy part of why Bannister instead of Hochevar. Pretty funny stuff.

I'm really enjoying the MLB Network. ESPN better watch out.

Quote from Lee:

"If you had told me before the game I would pitch eight innings and give up two runs, I would have been happy,"

Quote from Bannister:

"It wasn't a spectacular outing, but I did what I needed to do," he added. "I know my role. I'm glad to contribute and try to earn my way back."

It's great though. That's the reason I'm so excited. Back in 2003 we were winnning games with scores like 11-9 and flukish walk off home runs. I really think this team is being built in a manner that will lead to success.

Seriously...

If I have to listen to one more idiot say how they wish we would have had a chance to use Soria over the last week or so, I'll go crazy.

If only we had an important game that could've used a quality bullpen arm since then. hmmm

Nice to see the Royals finally got a win over Cliff Fucking Lee. Bastard owned us last year with 5-0 record.

As for Bannister, a good start. Let's hope he actually can do this on a consistent basis, since he owned the Indians.

There were several opportunities to get him in games. The thing is he NEEDS to pitch regardless of the situation; even if the Royals are down 10-3 and Soria hasn't pitched in 3-4 days he needs to get at least an inning of work in. If not he won't be as sharp when you need him to be and the risk of injury grows.

The twins dropped both games of a double-header and fall back a bit, but barring a miracle comeback for the Angels everyone else won. We remain tied at the top with Detroit and Chicago.

Ehh, its cool, especially as Royals fans, to see them at the top of the division, but I wouldn't get to concerned about that until after the All Star break. As long as the Royals stay within 4-5 games of the division things are good.

While true, the Royals has a habit of starting off real bad in April, that they already took themselves out of playoff contention in the month of April. If KC can stay within first or within striking range by the end of April, then anything is possible.

Kc should be 10-4 imo

Agreed. If anything they should have brought him into the Texas game.

I'll say 10-4, under the assumption that the Royals would have lost one of those 3 games anyway.

I wont be around this afternoon, someone will have to start the new game thread later today

I have a side bet with a buddy... 74 wins is a push anything over, I win.

My Vegas bets on the Royals are

Win division 15/1 @ $20

Win the AL 28/1 @ $10

Win Over 75 1/2 games $50

It's amazing how strong the starting pitching has been up to this point, especially what Cleveland and Chicago were doing.

If we lose, you're out of the "Official" thread business. Can't have you fucking up the Meche.

That being said, game time is 11:05 am......Good luck!
