I think it should be legalized. In light of some of the issues on the board right now, it would help. Guys wouldn't be so damn likely to screw another guy's wife, there would be less anxiety associated with dating, and the economy would benefit.

What do you peeps think?

Like they say, you can't legislate morality. As long as men exist who will pay for them, hookers will exist as well. They have a product, someone else has a need....

I've never purchased the services of a prostitute but I certainly don't fault anyone who has.

OTOH, though, is it really something we want to legitimize? Would anyone want their own wife or daughter doing that for a living?

Then again.....if your wife is going to be unfaithful, she could at least bring in some extra income.

If prostitution were legalized, it's safe to assume that the industry would evolve like any other commercial venture, Mr. Stewie.

There would eventually be a wide variety of prostitutes from which one could choose - from the basic, low cost, economy whore to the high quality, fully featured, more expensive call girl. The profession would return to the esteemed status it once had which would attract women of intelligence and class and we could reasonably expect an array of options to be made available ... sort of like a menu from which you could select when ordering either online or by telephone.

The advertising industry would benefit as would the insurance, pharmaceutical, banking and health sectors of the economy. Men would be relieved of stress leading to more productive, fulfilling, and longer lives. Women would also benefit since the marital demands on them would be reduced allowing them to dedicate themselves more fully to their careers and sandwich making.

There really isn't any downside, so far as I can see.

There isnt a damned thing you can do about it. Its either going to happen, or its not.

legalizing stuff like Marijuana and Prosititution just means the cops will have an easier time. Seriously, just think of how bad it would hurt the drug cartels' just legalizing pot. Meth is made here in the USA as it is, and the other hardcore drugs arent as popular as they used to be because of how cheap and easy it is to make meth.

Its so much better for us. Hell, just have them legalize pot and only able to smoke it in your home. tons of problems solved and jail space free'd up for the real criminals.

This again isnt anything that hasnt been discussed over and over and over and over again.

But thinking outside the box, isn't that the longstanding thinking of the 20th century and before? In the world of the Internet and pornography and birth control, nudity and sex are becoming less taboo and exotic, and more accepted as a normal part of human life. Any 13 year-old kid today has seen more nudity and sex than 99 percent of humanity that was born before 1975.

I think we're not too far from a point in society where people start thinking of sex as nothing more than getting a haircut or a manicure or a massage. It's a physical pleasure and not the mystical and magical act of love that it's been advertised as for the past 500 years. And I think that's a good thing. In that world, prostitution won't be a big deal.

Yeah, growing would be rampant, but how many people do you see gorwing it now, people just ****ing buy it - everything from shwag to the kindest bud. I think 90% of people would chose to buy good weed that was grown and groomed for the hugest bud harvests with the highest THC content. Growing good weed requires a lot of equipment. Legalizing weed would be a massive cash cow, won't even go into the benefits of legalizing hemp - that's a whole new (to us) industry.

May I say that this observation, remarkably considering the source, is both 100% correct and brilliantly insightful.

What is the difference between a blowup, life-size, doll lady available at any local sex shop in America and a prostitute? One is made from rubbery, plastic, balloon-type stuff and can't wash herself afterwards and the other one is not and cannot. That is all.

It's completely absurd that you can purchase a balloon lady, but you can't rent a real one without risking prison, fines, and embarrassment at the next Chamber of Commerce prayer breakfast. Good to see you on board, Mr. bandwagonjumper. I understand what you're saying, but just as some peeps are born to be plumbers, or elevator repairmen, or scientists, or horse trainers, or those guys that try and sell you vitamins at the mall, not every peep is born to be a prostitute.

Nonetheless (and I'm not an expert in history by any means), I seem to recall that some cultures - like the Romans and the Greeks and the Egyptians and ancient peeps like that - held their prostitutes in high regard. Certain types of prostitutes (non-slaves) were an esteemed class, in fact. It's strange to us now, but back then a peep might be proud that his daughter, for example, pursued a career as a woman of pleasure. I imagine that most prostitutes were unmarried, though.

So, it all boils down to societal acceptance, in the end. Other than the obvious moral argument, there's no particular reason why prostitutes should be looked down upon. They tend to be the dregs today merely because it is illegal and only a certain type of woman turns to prostitution. Were the legal status to change, the type of woman and, therefore, the stigma attached to the profession and those who engage in it would change as well.

My band used to play at a bar in Waikiki on Kuhio Ave. on the block where all the hookers are. Some of them were smoking hot. But maybe Waikiki has a better class of hooker than where you live.

It was kind of irritating to have them all hit on me every time I went out for a smoke during breaks, but once they knew I was working and not a potential customer some of them would chat with me. Most of them were pretty nice. I guess we were all just trying to make some money off the tourists.....:thumb:

I think it should be legalized. What consenting adults do with each other in privacy is not the governments business, and it seems ridiculous that you could have sex with the same girl for free and it would be legal, but the minute money changes hands it becomes illegal. How does that make sense?

I live in Italy. It is "semi-legal". I know guys from post that go and pick up prostitutes, pay 40 euros and get off. I'm not too sure about Italy because I hear that women are sometimes forced here. However, Germany on the other hand, has completely legal prostitution. They have legit red-light districts with women that get tested and are all willing participants. I don't know the figures but I am sure they have much lower rape stats than the US.

I do believe that prostitution should be legal. Regulate and tax, just like they should do with marijuana.

Caveat- I would find it hard to date a woman (in a pro-prostitution society) and then have to ask the question.. "Did you ever work as a prostitute?" Could be over real quick.

Fax just wants to become a male prostite, so he can please your wives. Then have them bring in your daughters so they can be broken in right. That's right, work hard all week so your wife and daughter get some Fax.

Prostitution is the second-oldest business next to surveying. Like gambling and mind-altering drugs, prostitution will ALWAYS be around. And, just like gambling and mind-altering drugs, if you legalize it you can legitimize it and control it. You can make sure it's clean and healthy. You can eliminate the seedy criminal aspect of it. You make the bad people poorer and--because you can tax it--you make the government richer. You can get a haircut, you can get a pedicure, you can get a full-body massage... why can't you get a Happy Ending? Because it's immoral? Please. I'm a bit of a Libertarian: as long as you're not hurting someone else, what two consenting adults do is their own damn business, literally.

Killing people is pretty old too and has been around forever, maybe we could legitimize that? The bold parts above are funny.

He is right. Making something illegal causes a huge growth in the black market, which results in large organized crime groups running it. See prohibition. If you make prostitution (or marijuana) legal and regulate it and tax it all that criminal activity goes away. It is far better than the way we do it now. It would be safer for the customers and the prostitutes, make our cities safer, and we would be far better off. Same for marijuana. More than 4000 people have died in the Mexican border towns because of a war between the government and the drug cartels. That would stop if drugs were legal.

You can't stop prostitution, so we would be better off making it legal.

I've never felt like I wanted to have my crime fighting dollars and prisons to be used on anything except to stop bad people from hurting others.

What consenting adults do in the privacy of their dwellings is not and should not be any of my business.

I'm thinking NOW would be a good time to GET a hooker... lots of newly broke women out there looking for some coin... so the hookers have a greater chance of being fresher nowadays.

Fresh hookers in down economy FTW!!!
