July 21st, 1969: Where were you?

I'll bet just everybody who was alive and old enough to remember knows where they watched Neil Armstrong take his giant step for mankind.

I was 10 years old, living in Kansas City. We were at another family's house watching a little 13" black and white tv propped up on an end table. There was no light in the house except for the glow from that little television. It was warm, of course, so all he windows were open and a fan was blowing. I think there may have been lightning......?

I guess to this day it's the coolest thing I ever saw. Men were walking on the moon and I was watching it on television.

And the Chiefs were a good team.

Looking back, I really had no gripes from the ages of about 10-12.

What do you old....er, middle aged....dudes remember about that night?

My mom got a set of pictures of the astronauts and the moon from the local A&P a few months later. They held a prized place on my wall for quite a while.

Was nearly 3 y/o at the time. But do remember some of the other landings. My parents were at the Apollo 14 launch, as guest of the Missouri Governor. Got pics of them watching the launch, and taking off in the first chartered 747 out of KCI I believe.

I was not yet 2 years old, had to wait until October for that. So, I was likely in a stroller, asleep, or getting my diaper changed, or seething in scarlet rage over the bottle which was a poor substitute at best for the breast.

It did happen on the 20th. That happens to be my wifes birthday. She tells me she was having a birthday party and all the kids gathered around the TV to watch. She thinks its pretty cool to have her birthday on such a significant day.

As for me I don't really know exactly what I was doing. My father was in the Air Force and we were Living at Edwards AFB in Calif. at the time.

I wasn't born yet. However, I did get to meet Buzz Aldrin two years ago. I asked him what the greatest moment in the whole journey was. His answer: "touching down". The landing the ship without crashing it was all of the suspense for him and Neil Armstrong, so that walking on the moon was almost a victory lap in comparison.

I was in summer school. My 2cnd grade teacher had a few problems with my attitude and decided I should actually learn something at school even if it ruined my plans for the summer. So the ole bitty flunked me out and made me go to summer school.

They called all the kids to the cafateria and rolled in the B&W TV. I can remember bits and pieces of it. I do remember thinking it was pretty cool and a sweet way of getting out of class.

I was 6 years old, and don't remember the landing. However, I have a vivid memory of seeing some guys in a parking lot with a telescope, and having my mom tell me they were trying to see Apollo.
