Conner Teahen to try out for KU football team this spring

KU football coach Turner Gill announced Wednesday that basketball player Conner Teahen will spend the spring football season trying out for the team's vacant quarterback position.

Teahen, a graduate of Kansas City's Rockhurst High School, has spent the past three seasons on the KU basketball team, but sought and received permission from Coach Bill Self to try out for the football team and new coach Gill.

“It is a tryout through spring practice. At the end of spring we will evaluate and go from there," Gill said in a statement.

This past year Teahan played in 19 games for the basketball team and averaged 1.1 points per game.

“Conner and I talked about this and I think it is a great idea that he go through spring ball to see if there is interest by both parties,” Self said. “I know three years out of football is a long time and it will be difficult for him, but his body is ready for football.

Self said this does not mean Teahen is thinking about leaving the basketball team, rather that he is trying to play both sports.

Teahan is one of the several token white cash funnels that warm KU's bench in basketball. This is simply diversifying the portfolio.

HSM (coined for his starring role in High School Musical) plays football?

Doesn't mean too much at the NCAA division 1 level.

Not that Teahan will ever seen a minute of playtime. But that dude is the opposite of scrawny.

He is 6'5" 215lbs.

OK. Wrong choice of words. I should have said lanky. Still too weak for a QB. He'd need to put on about 20 lbs of muscle if he was actually serious about it.

It's unlikely that he'll make the team, but I recall the kid having a hell of an arm back in high school. Guess it's worth a shot.

just silly ... a 215 pound quarterback IN COLLEGE is fine.

size is fine but can he actually play QB at a college level? Apparently he was ranked pretty high as a QB coming out of high school.

I believe Conner Teahen was a 4-star QB college recruit.

Not that I expect him to ever step on a football field for KU but the kid was highly recruited out of Rockhurst and has/had an absolute cannon for an arm.

If you get a running back or a lineman from Rockhurst, you're so money you don't even know it.

Quarterback? Not so much, I guess.

Connor Teahan is a 7 star recruit, because his dad is friends with Chuck Norris.

Looks like he was a 2 star actually. That's a big difference BTW.

Yeah, it takes him from a top 250 national recruit to a top 1000 recruit.

If you expand his offer list, he got an offer from Wichita State to play football. :thumb:

The same Wichita State that was rated higher than K-State in Street & Smith the year after WSU cancelled their football program?

Teahen will come in and play QB in the last :47 of the game, going 1/2 on pass plays, both of which were "all fly" patterns.
