Heard on the radio today that for the last part of the season, he went 1-10 with an 8+ ERA. 8+. Yeah.

Want to point out now that I hate Callaspo hitting in front of Butler, simply because I want to maximize the latter's ABs and make sure that he comes to the plate in the first.

Mistake on Hillman's part, IMO, but that's nothing new.

I really shouldn't have this much Royals hate in my system this early in the Season. But, I just can't believe how "Royally" fukced up our bullpen is this season. Unless our starters can go 7+ innings, I have no confidence we'll ever win a game.

thats not on the scorer.

Outfield balls that drop are never an error unless they touch it. Even if they are looking up at the sky and it falls 3 feet behind them, "losing the ball" is not an error.

Yeah. I guess I can sort of understand though. Judging errors on infielders is "easy", its right there, on the ground, there's little question of range.

For the outfield, the scorer (and everyone in the entire stadium) does not have a good depth perception at the angle to really see if it was an easy fly or a crazy fly that drifted around. Announcers usually call based on the fielder's behavior trusting they are tracking it, unless its clear they lost it.

Also, I guess they decided that having the sun in your eye is not something to blame the fielder on. (OK fine, why cant we call an error if there's no sun?)

KCUnited
04-07-2010, 06:55 PM
Dayton didn't consider it an error either.

I don't think low 90s with sink and marginal secondary pitches = top of the rotation guy.

Prior to now, he didn't have Kevin Brown (in his prime and on roids) stuff.

That was by choice until someone basically told him to stop screwing around. I don't think we thought Luke had the ability to throw 96-97 strikes with movement.

I agree

I am just saying he could possibly have top of the rotation stuff, IF he can throw this hard, IMO

DeezNutz
04-07-2010, 07:13 PM
That last pitch was completely unhittable.

96. Tons of movement. Outside corner.

This really can't be happening, right?

tk13
04-07-2010, 07:14 PM
He could reach 93-94... and he has tremendous movement on his pitches. I fought it to the death all of last year and I will this year. We don't need to pull another De La Rosa... same thing happened there. A guy who could throw in the 90's with tremendous movement and we let him walk. Maybe Hoch won't get there, he might bomb his next 5 starts after this one... but it won't be because of his stuff.

I always feel like everybody else is watching a different pitcher than I am with him.

Yeah, but the difference between 93 and 96 with sink is exponential, as you know.

I just think we have a huge difference of opinion regarding his secondary pitches. I think they have been (as of '09) marginal, at best.

tk13
04-07-2010, 07:17 PM
Well yeah throwing 97 is better than 93... but what he's also doing is throwing sliders in the low 90's and getting ground balls and strikeouts. Remember he had a stretch last year where he struck out like 30 guys over 3 starts or whatever it was. He has the stuff, he has to control it.

I would say he has the stuff, he just has to be able to throw it every time out. It is not always just the control sometimes he isn't throwing sliders in the low 90's

I know, I know. But he's not throwing sliders in the low 90s with #1 at 93.

This is a completely different guy tonight.

But he was also the beneficiary of some wonderful French impressions from the opponents. For example, has a team ever laid down as meekly as the Reds last season? ****, I was truly embarrassed for them.

Anyway, let's hope you're right and I'm wrong.

You really think Hillman's approach to games cost us more than a handful of victories?

Granted, it sucks to lose any game by managerial decision, but this club never recovered because it lacks talent, not because of Barnyard Trey.

Given his injury history, no, he should not be in consistently. Especially since this club won't contend.

His injury history is not Meche's injury history or Bannister's injury history. Heck, some feel he should be a starter, not the closer.

How many games did the Royals lose last year in the 8th by refusing to use Soria... making him the traditional 9th inning closer instead?

Last year, Hochevar is left in and Jackson has a good chance to tie the game.. and then you don't use Soria.. you lift Hochevar, bring in those clown relievers to pitch to Damon and likely Ordonez to get that 3rd out and preserve the tie.

I'll take my chances with Soria coming in 1 batter earlier than "normal" and getting that rookie mothereffer out in 5 pitches or less....

Have you ever played Baseball Mogul? If not, man, is it a blast. I started the Royals in 1976 and won the 1977 World Series, the 1980 Series, the 82, 83 series and the 85 Series. It's now 1986.
