View Full Version : What is the best way to stop Gannon ?

Do you key a LB on him,or do you wait for him to move 1st and take your best shot! I don't want no harm to any player, but if he goes out,I don't believe Hoying can move them well enough!

I feel the defense will do OK with the rest of the offense they have, but Gannon's legs have got to be minimized! http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/smile.gif

Your thoughts on how to stop him ?

Let's send Denise out there this week-endand wear him out so he would be too tired to play on Sunday. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/wink.gif

Clemmons didn't play the 1st game, can you imagine Gannon gett'n blindsided by him? Out in the open he won't take a hit like McNair did,Gannon is to smart for that,Slid'n around not to take the big hit!

Are you taking up a collection for her? I'll bet we could get major contributions from the other board if that meant she wouldn't post there for the whole weekend. http://www.ChiefsPlanet.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

McNair was blindsided by Clemmons. We need to put a hurtin on him a couple of times so he'll think twice about vacating the pocket.... I'd rather see him in the whole game so we don't have to modify our gameplan for a new QB. We know how well our coaching staff makes adjustments mid-stride....

The trick with keying a LB on him is that the LB can't commit to stopping him too soon...if Gannon sees the LB leave his coverage area, he'll dump it off and get yards that way...

My plan would be to be sure that the DEs contain as best as possible...show more blitzes than the first game...get to him early and often and make him think twice...if he does scramble...knock the hell out of him so he might hesitate the next time he thinks about leaving the pocket...

Make him beat us long...it won't happen...if we allow him those little dump offs and 8 yard slants or to get out and run...we are in for a long day...

if all else fails...as someone already said...put Denise in the game...

I dont feel you can call McNairs shot ,blindsided,McNair never saw Clemmons till just before the hit! Gannon won't be hit like that unless it is blindsided,he will slide!

The best way is to keep him in the pocket with no lanes to run through or outside. he starts to get very happy feet, dance around and even panick a little when there is nowhere for him to run.

We gotta knock their butts in the dirt, kick-em in the groin, go up in the stands and hit his mommy in the mouth.

Uh, I mean play good solid football and win the turnover battle.<BR>

Arash,
Not a bad idea, but is there room for his head still? Besides the helmet might create to much shrapmetel. Of course that also might take out a few other raiders players....

Contain him and make him throw long. Take away the 3-6 yard dinkdunk game underneath and blitz straight up the middle. The DE's job is containment, not sacks. I know that sounds odd coming from an old QB-Crushing Homer like me, but Gannon is dangerous when he improvises. Collapse the pocket around him, do not over-pursue up-field.

Gannon will not beat you with 20+ yard passes. He is the best at the dinkdunk game, so force him to beat you down-field. If he does so, tip you hat with all due respect and turn your attention to who will be our HB next season.

If Schottenheimer pulls out the soft zone, storm the skybox and hurl him to the turf below. Anyone who wants to give Raye a few dope slaps as a preemptive measure would not be criticized.

Blitz some scrub player like Carlton Gray and have him take a real clean shot at Richie's knee on the 1st play. 1 personal foul, 15 yds, and backup QB is in the rest of the game.

LOL@#14 although tossing Kurt out of the skybox would be took quick a death.

I say drag him out into the Oakland parking lot wearing his KC garb and put a sign on him that says,

"I've had your sister but she isn't as good as your mom".

The same question was asked of Gun on kcchiefs.com and his answer lead me to believe he thought we defensed him properly in the first game, and that there's no need to change philosophies. Maybe he's trying not to tip his hand, or maybe his is that dumb.

Mark M [BornChiefs]

I agree with the DE contain theory, blitz the middle and contain the short passes..it would be nice to see Rich diggin plenty of grass out of his helmet sunday.

I aggree with storming the box if kurt goes with soft zone...But I'm not going to Oakland without my .40 and I think the airport frowns on those?

dallaschiefsfan
11-02-2000, 12:23 PM
Pressure up the middle is the key. You cannot give that guy an escape route up the middle. And when you do get a hold on him, wrap up and make a sound takle. When he got out of the grip on that first drive last game and scrambled for the first down and it turned out to be one of the key plays of the game. If he gets sacked there they punt and no touchdown.

AustinChief
11-02-2000, 12:26 PM
On the first series of downs that Oakland gets... Before the ball is hiked as Gannon lines up behind the center, have McGlockton or Bush jump the line and nail the sucker!!!! Should be the best 15 yard penalty ever...

And then do it again! and again!

Hell, have everyone blitz before the ball is hiked...

This is a direct quote taken from another Chiefs source...as it relates to a QB in Sunday's game...

keep what up?...hmmmmm....

now I know how the media can twist things...a little editing...not naming specific sources...I should get a job with the Inquirer.

the best way to stop ol gannon is to not play that crappy soft zone we played against them in the second half. let them have their 3-5 yard gains. If and it is a big if we have the lead by a touchdown or more at the half we have to score more points instead of trying to protect the lead as in the first meeting. Yea we almost lost the game in Seattle but we had i believe two touchdowns dropped one by the gonzo and alexander both of whom have been incredible in our new found passing attack. so B-E A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E!!!
