Well, they've stopped me. I haven't been to a game at Arrowhead since 2007, and that was the MU/KU game. Haven't seen the Chiefs play there since 2006. Like I'm going to drive 500 miles to watch that choad Cassel play. I did go see them last year at Soldier Field, but that's local, the tickets were free, and it wasn't even my idea to go.

Can't remember the last time I bought any Chiefs merchandise - even Ebay knockoff stuff. It's been years. I don't wear Chiefs stuff out in public. I keep raping myself by purchasing Sunday Ticket, so I watch these turds suck from the privacy of my own den. I don't invite people over to watch the games or talk about it. It's just a private shame at this point. I used to be Mr. Chief - but people who've met me over the past couple of years probably don't even know I like professional football.

Just me and the shame of watching them get the shit kicked out of them yet again and relentlessly suck year after year after motherfucking year. When Brett retired, that was pretty much the end.

I'm really starting to not care about the Chiefs in the same way. Doesn't matter if I can watch them or don't feel alone in being a fan anymore. Decades of abuse tell me that the best I can hope for is crushing heartbreak when they come thisclose but fail spectacularly. And normally they just stink. Even though I grew up rooting for both the Cards and the Royals, as a kid I always liked the Royals better. I was born in Kansas City. The first game I ever saw was at Royals Stadium. George Brett was my hero and is still my all time favorite player. Even though it was painful to pick between them in 85, I rooted for the Royals (that's why it cracks me up when people try to piss me off with Denkinger talk). But at some point they just faded into nothingness. I obviously don't need my team to win all the time, but I do need to feel like they're trying, like the organization is committed to success. And neither Kansas City team cares about that. At this point it's fairly obvious.

This season, games can be televised locally even when just 85% of tickets are sold. The Wall Street Journal reports that teams will be able to set their own "seat-sales benchmark" – as long as it's at least 85% of total capacity – and when that benchmark is met, games can be televised locally. "To discourage teams from setting easy benchmarks, teams will be forced to share more of the (ticket) revenue when they exceed it," the WSJ reports.

Blacked-out games aren't a huge deal: Just 16 of the NFL's 256 regular-season games were blacked out last season.

But at least theoretically, the looser rules on blackouts could encourage otherwise hesitant teams to expand stadium capacity.
